What Richard Branson said to me

What Richard Branson said to me

I recently returned from Necker and promised you all that I would share my experiences with you. I have held back from sharing the joy and deliciousness created purely because, with the loss of the Queen, I honestly have been feeling this massive wave of grief.

I am a huge empath and the day that I found out, I was so ridden with grief it felt hard to experience any happiness. I am still crying as I write this email.?

As the journey progressed and we arrived in Necker, the grief turned to self-reflection as I considered what this incredible woman taught others. Then I realised that it wasn't what she taught us, more how she made us feel.?

Building a business is about building community and community is about supporting one another in times of grief and in times of joy.?

As I allowed myself to feel more joy, I realised I had allowed myself to be more open. To be more open to receiving and feeling ALL emotions.?

We are taught so often that sadness is bad. Suck it up. Swallow your pride. Man up.?

So I surrendered. (I will write to you in a few days to tell you about my spiritual awakening as I am still processing this!)

I surrendered to all that was happening for me on that little island. The only way I can describe Necker Island was it felt like I was in Jurassic Park, expecting a tyrannosaurus to fly across the sky! Nature was incredible. Beautiful bright flamingoes, giant turtles and many more.?

The following day, I sat with Richard at dinner and then again listened to him speak to the group in an open Q&A. Here are some of the things that he shared:

  • When you know it is the right thing to do, jump in no matter what the odds
  • Turn your biggest weaknesses into your biggest success
  • The brave may not live forever, but the cautious do not live at all
  • If you don’t attempt things, you don’t achieve them at all
  • A great life is the cumulation of curiosity and being in the race
  • Look after the people in your circles, properly and deeply
  • Create something special - Are you creating something special enough that people will WANT to follow and be a part of it?
  • All entrepreneurs are bettering the world. They step in to make things better. They can move faster than governments and charities
  • Don’t be embarrassed to be financially successful
  • With extreme wealth comes extreme responsibility
  • You can be happy with little, the things don’t mean anything (he lived on a houseboat for many years whilst building the Virgin brand)
  • What is missing from the world is a real United Nations, that comes together for the betterment of the world
  • To grow a business, and not get stuck - find somebody better than yourself to step into your shoes as CEO. This is the only way to multiple companies and wealth
  • Get somebody else to do the day-to-day business, and get out of the building - people always want to see the top person in the business
  • Give the person you put in charge the freedom to make mistakes and leave them to it - empower them
  • Promote from within
  • You don’t need a lot to be happy. It is all about relationships. It is not all about making money. You don’t need all the trappings
  • Have the satisfaction of creating something until you are proud of it
  • Do what you can to keep your reputation intact
  • Isn’t life wonderful (This is what his Dad used to say to him)

Hit reply and tell me your favourites!?

Love Catherine?

PS: I am taking so much of my lessons and personal breakthroughs and carrying these into our biggest event of the year coming up in mid-October. ‘Your Wealth Breakthrough Experience’. I can't wait to share this with you soon.?

I saw the video on Instagram and I did think Richard was there with you on the journey or was he in the background maybe? ?? ?? I do love the list he made and I am grateful to have spent sometime in the early days with my educational project before One Woman Power with the Virgin Team and Richard I heard he loved the idea of what we were doing especially for Empowerment of Youth Entrepreneurs whilst in school in 2011. Keep up the good work Catherine. ????

I resonate with all of this Catherine; the one that strikes me most is about turning your biggest weaknesses into your biggest successes. I’m also struck by extreme wealth brings extreme responsibility & whilst I intellectually know that I wonder if it’s that which can feel like a barrier sometimes.
