What are the regulations challenging your small business?
Tomorrow sees the monthly SME Action Group hosted by Small Business Minister, Paul Scully?MP. Each month the Minister asks what needs to be done (or not done) to ensure small businesses have the best chance of success.??
I don’t usually make a public call for evidence as the Enterprise Nation platform delivers insight on what you are?searching?for which is the foundation of our comments when liaising with government,?but a question for tomorrow’s?meeting?is one that intrigues me.
The question is: ‘What are the regulations challenging small businesses?’??
It’s a tough question as many small businesses find it hard to name a regulation?but I’d love to hear if there is something you feel is holding you back.??
Recent?‘regulation type’?examples I have heard?include:??
Do you have?an?example?that has?affected you? If so,?I?will?take?it?to the?meet so your?challenge?can be heard. Please comment or direct?message.?Thanks in advance.??

3 年Great - thanks for the opportunity, Emma. I continue to enjoy my Enterprise Nation membership. Over the last twenty years, I've contributed to a great deal of government and small business membership bodies' committees, research and reports on the cost to small and micro business owners of regulatory compliance. By far the most useful recommendations for improvement to the spiralling cost of money and time which prevents the self-employed from taking on employees, premises and growing their businesses online and offline were on the Government Committee and research report chaired by Sarah Anderson CBE. Sarah Anderson CBE The Government's Better Regulation Executive in 2010 also provided a useful short report on the issues. Regrettably, all the issues outlined have been compounded not resolved in the last ten years. There is a section in the latter report on 'Why micro-business matters?' and two years later we founded the #MicroBizMatters movement, with 4 campaigns including #PayIn30Days, as a response. The opening of the Government's Better Regulation Executive report (2010) was spot-on: "We spoke to?500 micro-businesses (those with fewer than 10 employees)?and found that businesses?are struggling to cope with existing regulations and that each?new regulation or change simply adds to their problems. The sense of?frustration felt by these businesses was evident, with some showing clear signs of distress." There is a lot of great research available to your committee and trust me it is all relevant today. Good luck with the meeting. We did send both the Chancellor and the Small Business Minister a copy of 'The Happipreneur: Why #MicroBizMatters?' as it details 'There is Another Way' to resolve many of the issues. I doubt whether either looked at our book but the previous Shadow Small Business Minister, Bill Esterson commented favourably on it and we had a zoom meeting to discuss the recommendations therein. #KeepRocking for micro business owners. 5.7 million #MicroBizMatters & 3 million #ExcludedUK matter most.
