  1. Microlearning: Of all the trends that are already in eLearning trends or in the trends that are yet to come, Micro-Learning is my favorite! This is similar to the Pomodoro technique. Pomodoro technique is the perfect length of time ? ? (usually 25minutes) to help you not procrastinate, be productive, create urgency and help you stay focused on any task you are tackling. This is based on the fact that the human brain can be laser-focused for a very short span of 25 minutes. Wondering what is the relation between the brain's focus time and Micro learning?! Well, Microlearning methods include short videos of 20-25minute long videos. This helps the enrolled student to stick to the content for the complete video without any distraction! Thus increasing the understanding of the particular topic. For Instance, DuoLingo ( Language learning app), uses such short lessons / Micro units! You can navigate to the next lesson/ unit only after completing the current one. This improves understanding of the subjects and helps in deep learning.
  2. Game-based learning / Gamification: If someone handovers you a textbook and a PS, what would you choose? Obviously PS is right! Who would compromise playing games over a book?! Not everyone engages in learning monotonous study material right? What if we bring gaming into learning? L&D managers are striving hard to teach lessons through games. Gamification allures learners into engaging in their training by showcasing it as a ‘plaything.’ Again, in the Gamification aspect, Duolingo fares far better than many eLearning applications. Be it with instant grading, animals (characters including the Owl), leaderboard, challenges and achievement, and many more.
  3. Artificial Intelligence: With Artificial Intelligence ( AI) there is gonna be a paradigm shift in online education. Already the learning and development? ? ? ? ( L&D ) managers are trying to incorporate AI in online education platforms. Some of them include Augmented reality / Virtual reality (AR / VR). AR/VR technology also allows students to circumnavigate the globe and explore historically important moments up close and personal, traveling the universe without ever leaving the classroom. One more thing the L&D managers are working towards is including NLPs in eLearning platforms. Alexa, Siri are some examples of NLPs. Though incorporating AI in eLearning platforms is only in the budding stage it holds the power to positively 180? shift the Online education modality.
  4. Big Data: The world is evolving and so is the way people learn. Tactics used yesterday for an effective learning experience may not work for you tomorrow. The needs of the learners are changing and demanding more personalized attention. To provide a personalized learning environment, we need to have a tight grip on big data analytics. Like a YouTube/ Instagram feed that gives you the videos/Posts you might prefer based on your data, Collecting and analyzing the user data that you preferred during the training module, you can adapt to the unique needs of your learners. In 2022, success will be achieved by those who understand and act on their learners’ behaviors and needs.
  5. Internet of Things: The term Internet of Things generally refers to “scenarios where network connectivity and computing capability extends to objects, sensors and everyday items not normally considered computers, allowing these devices to generate, exchange and consume data with minimal human intervention. There is, however, no single, universal definition”. In simple words, for instance, IoT sends the marks scored by a student in real-time to parents and teachers, and When a student submits an assignment, it gives further information about, at what time the assignment was submitted, how long he/she took for writing those assignments, have they worked late night? This underlying information helps the teacher to understand if the given assignment is cumbersome or what difficulties they face with the subject.?
  6. m-Learning: Nearly 6.6 Billion people own a smartphone, which is around 83.7% of the total population. Before the pandemic Smartphones were just a communication devices, people used them extensively for social communication and entertainment, very few used smartphones pedagogically. Thanks to the pandemic we were forced to use smartphones for online education. With mobile learning, students are empowered to learn from where they want. Mobile learning focuses mainly on the development of mobile applications and software platforms used to create digital content in the form of digital textbooks for e-learners and access to educational resources through mobile devices. Even many eLearning solution providers are releasing mobile-friendly eLearning platforms, since it is a market that can reach every nook and corner of the world, and it has the potential to take quality education even to the underprivileged who can't access even basic education.
  7. Cloud e-Learning: Cloud computing for operating companies in variousareas such as planning and correction help to meet the increasing demand. Cloud computing is a promising infrastructure that provides computing and storage resources as a service. Cloud computing can provide services at any time/anywhere. By making use of cloud computing, cloud learning stores all the learning resources on a server, which can be accessed by students from any part of the world.
