What it really means to pivot into tech from a non-tech background

There is something you need to know! When it comes to pivoting from your non-technical role into tech its almost like a rebrand for yourself!

I'm not saying change the person who you are and pretend to be someone youre not but you do need to brand yourself to land the role you want in tech

Essentially your personal brand is who you are and what you are known for, now if you have been in education for 7 years that is your brand!

So if you are wanting to pivot into tech you are going to have to make sure that you adjust your personal brand to the role and industry you are aiming for.

I see clients who come from education alot and want to move into data analytics and often they are still teachers which is nothing wrong with being a teacher however, your personal brand stands out in your job transistion so ensure that you are representing the right you.

Another thing is that if you've newly pivoted into data analytics don't expect yourself to be seen as an expert, but be known for the person who goes the extra mile to learn, asks questions (curiously) and is intrigued by the data they see.

Show them that side of you, because hiring managers use your personal brand to make hiring decisions and it has a big influence on their decision, more than you think!

Some questions to ask yourself as a newbie to tech and building your personal brand:

1. What kind of traits do I want to be known for?
2. What am I making evidently clear that I want to learn more about?
3. How have previous skills helped me get to this point?
4. What do I eventually want to be know for?

The biggest key take-away I want you to have is this - You don't have to change the person you are

Think about it like this if Apple ?? brings in a new product it has different deatures and does extra stuff but it still part of Apple and their core brand but it has a different skillset!

That is how you should view your personal brand when pivoting into tech!
