What it really means to be a Female Founder

What it really means to be a Female Founder

Being a Female Founder is no small thing.?

As a woman in business - it can be hard to show up as you want to as consistently as you’d like because of all the varying factors going on in your life.?

This is well researched stuff - and there’s plenty out there to show just how much more difficult it is to run a business as a woman compared to our male counterparts.?

Here’s a little summary:

1. Women are less likely to receive funding for their business ventures. And if they do - are far more likely to be heavily scrutinised on their spending of that funding.?

2. Women in the UK make up for 60% MORE unpaid work than men. That means caring for elderly parents / children, neighbours and colleagues.?

Although these stats were taken from a census in 2015 - little has changed in the last 8 years according to the Office of National Statistics.?

This work should be taken as part of GDP - because the care women give that is unpaid - helps the economic growth of the economy. It ‘makes the economy tick.’?

See this video for a breakdown on this

But we are not paid for this work and it doubles up to produce stress and anxiety making it difficult for some women to even contemplate starting or growing a business.?

3. Women are given fewer ‘opportunities’ because of the power hold of men making most of the decisions in their organisations. Ever heard of the term ‘it’s not what you know - it’s who you know?’

This saying is so important when we think of the barriers women face in growing their connections. Doors simply don’t open as readily to us and therefore we are rarely in the room making the connections that we need to make to grow our business.?

4. Because of this - women still feel ‘new’ and ‘like they don’t fit’ in many male dominated industries - including UK entrepreneurship.?

I often find myself being asked by family if I ‘could just…’

  • Pick up my son when it’s not my time to do so or have him during the holidays full time because I can ‘work from home.’
  • Take a care package to a family member because I run my own diary
  • Schedule appointments - medical and so on - because I am able to use my phone when I please.?

And yes - most of this is simply practical - BUT - I have the responsibility of drawing the boundaries so that future generations of women don’t have that societal expectation to shift things around at the last minute.?

So this month - we are all going to be taking a look at what it REALLY means to be a female founder.?

Each week with insights and support to help you understand that - it’s not just you. And no - it doesn’t always have to be that way!

Buckle up and let's get started!

I’d like to give a HUGE shoutout to my client Amy Leighton who is studying her Masters in Psychology on top of securing her International Coaching Federation PCC (no mean feat) whilst taking MASSIVE action from our 1:1 coaching sessions.?

Amy is a highly accomplished coach supporting people with their visibility in the public arena. Online, in person you name it - she knows it!

Collective Member Of The Month

This month we would love to celebrate the wonderful Maxyne Ryan.

Since joining The Collective a few months ago - Maxyne has made it to most of the check-ins and outs, attending the Sort your Services Masterclass - and being an all round self-coaching pro.?

I have known Maxyne for a couple of years through the Clubhouse audio app - her voice is a dream and her smile is infectious. We love seeing her show up and wanted to commend her for her tenacity to self-development in The Collective.

“I have been working with Lucienne and CEW since January. It’s made a big difference to me for sure. I am gaining traction each week with the weekly check in and check out. Her mid week “lives” have great topics and I always come away with an insight or three! She offers great coaching and laser like questions. Her master classes are brilliant and I’m very much looking forward to the summit in July. I’m taking what I call “tiny massive” actions that are accumulating. I would highly recommend Lucienne to any female founder looking for a business coach!”

What I'm Watching

This month brings us to all things survival and nature! I have started watching the brilliant Outlast. Based in Alaska - in extreme conditions, people who usually like to survive alone are tasked with working in a team. It’s FASCINATING. Watching the human dynamics play out as the alphas try to dominate each group has me hooked! And all hell breaks loose. It’s brilliant and well worth the watch! On Netflix.?

What I'm Listening To

This month I am going to give a general shout out to BBC Radio 6. It’s my fave radio station - and if you were to come round to mine at anytime during the day - it would probably be on in the background.?

If you are a bit of a muso (which I have to confess I am) this is for you. I listen to a broad spectrum of different music from Folk to Jungle and BBC Radio 6 has it all covered. I particularly liked Lizzo’s All Queens special last month. Give it a listen by clicking on the image below.?

Tickets for the Female Founders Summit have already been released to the Academy members. At the end of this month they will go on general sale. First come first served for the priority list and then we will open up to everyone.?

As with last year - there are only 50 tickets and all proceeds go to charity. We have all day Masterclasses being given by some of my most incredible clients, as well as an evening summit with an extra special guest speaker.?

I CANNOT wait to announce the line-up but I can tell you that Lea Turner and Carrie Green have already confirmed that they will be running Masterclasses again.?

You have just 2 weeks to ensure you’re on the priority list.

SECURE YOUR SEAT

Tickets are a ridiculously value based £350+VAT (£420 in total) and training with our speakers would cost THOUSANDS if you were to work with them at this level.?

I would LOVE to see you in Manchester on 7th July 2023.?

Phew.?

Look out for your weekly dose of High Performance coaching and mentoring emails from yours truly. It’s a tough time for some of us out there and I want you to know you are not alone. Female Founders are stronger than ever - and we can be even stronger if we continue to support each other.?

Sending you so much love,

Lucienne
