What is the real issue...TRUTH!
The list of issues facing Americans today is long, complicated, and very complex. Politicians, polls, and our own experiences indicate which issues are of most concern.?Almost ever political commercial tells us how the candidate’s opposition is out-of-touch or adding to the problem.?The “mud” is thick and getting thicker.?These claims and half-truths are coming from all political parties and at every level.
What is important to you??The economy and inflation??Boarder security and immigration? Crime and the methods to stop it? Gun control and violence? Energy independence or reliance on foreign supplies.?Human rights and war in other parts of the world? Drugs in our streets and the growing cry to legalize certain things??
One thing that is lacking in most of the conversations is how to address these issues and solve problems.?Most of what we hear are those trying to detract and distract us from the real issues vs those attacking them.?We hear broad strokes and wild claims but few specific actions that will have real results.
There were times in our history when we were united around finding solutions, coming together to address the issues and find solutions.?When we found ourselves behind in the Space Race, we rallied behind President Kennedy to find a way to send a man to the moon.?When we were attacked on 9/11, Patriotism sored, and we came together to fight against our enemies.?There are many other great examples.
We are more divided today then in any other time in our history.?Social media, the media in general, relatively small groups of individuals demanding equality, greed, and social division are all responsible.?We lack respect for one another, demand our own ways, find little compassion for others, and cannot agree on much.?Truth no longer prevails in the face of so much deceit and lies.
The American experiment was unique and improbable in 1776, when Thomas Jefferson penned the Declaration of Independence and the American colonies defied Britain, the most powerful nation on earth at the time. As we look around the world at how difficult it is for democracy and freedom to take hold and flourish, America seems like a political miracle.
Ronald Reagan stated at Yorktown in 1981, "Our Declaration of Independence has been copied by emerging nations around the globe, its themes adopted in places many of us have never heard of. Here in this land, for the first time, it was decided that man is born with certain God-given rights. We the people declared that the government is created by the people for their own convenience." As powerful as that message is, it must receive constant reinforcement from those who remain convinced of its promise.
The real issue is that we no longer seek real solutions, we no longer set out specific actions that address problems.?We only remind each other what is wrong with the world and how we have failed.
