What is radio spectrum e-Licensing?
National spectrum regulators have been forced out of the office and online. Current systems have been revised for the new way of working. Customers now expect an internet-first approach to government services.
A key role of the regulator is to efficiently license the finite radio spectrum. Software solutions and systems are required to do this effectively.
The move to e-Licensing allows applications for radio licenses/frequency authorisation through a web portal. This reduces the administrative burden associated with paper forms and speeds up the application process.
Users can now interact with a government portal to apply for a radio license. Once the application is submitted, the automated process reduces the time taken to approve and issue radio licenses with greater accuracy.
From the regulator's perspective, less time is taken with the administration of the applications and fees can be collected easily through their payment gateway.
We see a trend as regulators request automation of their existing manual spectrum management process' (allocation and assignment of frequencies, and addressing to interference complaints) and, digitisation and integration of un-organized data/records in a comprehensive, robust and reliable database system.
