What are the questions you should ask as a Leader.

I am not a professional writer but from my experience that I have learned that we should ask several questions daily to our team. It keeps team healthy, in terms of coordinations, it helps you to be close to your team, release the pressure from the team member and keep healthy working environment.

Mind you all these questions should be asked in a group session and it should be open hearted discussion.

1.   How is the Work/Task going on. (Best / Better / Good / Bad / Worst) and Why? (Any big win / loss)

This is a great place to start. Employees get to celebrate and even brag a little about all the positive stuff that happened that week by simply answering that question. This includes the small things that often get overlooked because they aren’t related to top priorities. As a bonus, you will glean what employees consider triumphs relative to the operational goals of the organization.

2.   What challenges are you facing (in life and work place)? Are you stuck, if yes Where?

I have observed that there are many people whose personal problems effects the professional life. I can also understand that it is not advisable to ask the personal problems but if the team member says or shares the problem he / she will feel relaxed and According to me the quickest way to overcome challenges and get unstuck is to say, “I’m stuck!”

If we can identify the problems in the work place it can be solved. I strongly believe that if there is a problem there will be a solution and the maximum time spend is identifying the problem.

3.   How is your work going and how would you like it to do? What are your suggestions to make it even better?

I have experienced that many team members don’t agree or are not happy with the work going on, they need some changes to work either faster or to get better output. If you ask them this question they can suggest few points which can be discussed and if feasible than can be implemented. If it is not implemented and it is discussed, then the team member can understand why it is not feasible to implement the points suggested. Team members will be more satisfied than ever.

4.   How are you feeling? What’s the morale around you?

Sometimes I have noticed that few team members don’t enjoy the company of other team members. It is natural. If we can ask this question to the team members, they can share the pros and cons of the team member. I am not saying to do backbite but it should be group discussion thus everyone can enjoy working and work environment can be improved.

5.   On a scale of 1-10, how happy are you? Why?

The research of positive psychology is clear: employee satisfaction is a precursor to success and accomplishment, not the other way around. When your team is happy, they not only come up with better solutions, but their satisfaction also helps to build an organizational culture of high performance and low turnover. This question simultaneously sends the message that your employee matters beyond mere performance and work-related issues. By quantifying happiness, you can get a quick snapshot of this metric team-wide.

6.   What’s the best thing that happened to you this week, either at work or outside of it?

There are strategic reasons to ask this question during soliciting employee feedback, since learning about team members as whole people can help you develop a more committed and engaged team. Feeling that others know them and understand their personal desires and goals helps to maintain team cohesion and employee retention.

7.   Provide one idea to improve the product or service provided by your company

I have observed that when any product or service is developed for certain group of people or company then the developers knows the most about it. Even if it is used by the end users. They knows the pros and cons of the product. They can give the maximum and the best output about the improvement / expansion of the product / service. Which can be later converted to business. This will not only increase company’s revenue but also the satisfaction to the employee that his / her suggestion is implemented.

8.   If you owned the company, what’s one thing you would do differently?

If you have a good team then you know that the team can create wonders. You should definitely ask this question to your team as they might have different ideas. Which can generate revenue for your business. This may also bring out the cons of your existing system

9.   What were some great contributions made by other team members?

I have experienced that if we praise a team member it will not affect a lot to that particular team member but if that achievement is shown to the team then it does a great impact and if that achievement is identified by the team member itself then that particular team member can be on the sky. This will not only help the team member but also boost the performance of the other member to achieve a lot.

10. Ask for the pros and cons of your leader (Your self)

This is a good question to ask, as it will give you an idea how you are doing and how you can improve.
