What the public don't see!!

I am starting out this morning at 04:00 and something hit me. In the 18 years since I have entered this entertainment industry business I have never been this much disappointed, sad and basically just appalled.

What happened to adhering to Basic Code of Conduct, Basic Conditions of Employment Act and just plain and simple understandable rules and regulations within this heavily saturated industry we call #Entertainment. I have asked myself the same question since my very first event with my DAD Pieter Skippers, a Mobile Disco DJ from a small town in the Western Cape called Hermon. My DAD took me everywhere with him since the age of 3 years old. Here I learned about Sound, Lights and Events Management already. We had fun and good times, even sometimes #SoldOut events in towns like Piketberg, Malmesbury, Saron and Gouda to name but a few. My Dad and his brother Johannes Skippers "Hansie" was the DJ's, I was the all rounder (lol) and my family supported in various aspects of the event. These tasks included, venue hire, sourcing decor, doing the decor, cleaning of venue afterwards, reception of guests at the door and finances. This was fun for me as a youngster growing up with sound & lights almost every weekend of our time in Hermon. Hermon is situated on the R43 between Wellington and Gouda in case u do not know, #Google_it .

Now, to bring you quickly to my point and let us continue on with our daily tasks. I have worked myself into a position where I am no longer worth what you think I should be worth. I have dedicated my entire life to assist and help others to also #livethedream. Herewith I do not want to brag or anything to that effect. Freelance Sound Engineer and AV Technician for my dream company @Gearhouse was an opportunity I grabbed with both hands. Thank you Mr Armstrong Duma (R.I.P), Bjorn Fielding, Amory Speelman, Craig Coetzee and the @Gearhouse Cape Town office for allowing me to really #livethedream. Thank you Bass Cube Audio, H&R Sound & Lights, SoundRite Audio, Steven Wolhuter of Vision Media and also the preferred audio & technical support team for the #SAB_Gigrig Cape Town Branch, Lance Julius of JLM24 in Paarl for always motivating and coaching me when I stepped out of line. Thank you @Radio KC 107.7FM, Franschhoek FM 87.6 and also @Eldo's FM 87.6 in Johannesburg for allowing me to #livethedream in Media and Radio. Thank you @Hectic9Nine SABC 2 for giving me the opportunity to #livethedream working in the Film & TV industry. Lastly, I want to say a huge and big thank you to @Tswelopelo Productions for 13 Episodes of @Pasella as a Sound Recordist (Boomswinger). I admit, I did not give my best with this opportunity and had to be reprimanded a few times. I thought I had it, I know what to do, I can do it all. NO!! It was a new and different set up, team, ways of doing things, and most of all Code of Conduct. I had to learn all of these things about shooting on location from the #TEAM that was the experts in their field working in location shoots including all the aspects such as Camera, Lights, Location, Presenters, Guests, Transport, Accommodation and so much more. I had to humble myself again and just look at the brighter side of things. I was learning a new skill.

Now here is where I end this article and say this. Please #SA_Government bring back the #Midi_Trust. Let us all work together through governing entities like #TPSA powered by @SACIA to protect, guide, train and enhance the future of the South African Technical Productions, TV, Film, Radio and Internet Content producers endeavors to be the best. Lets adopt the #YesWECan attitude and embrace the fact that we are different. We are natural born #leaders in our various fields of expertise. Let's build the Entertainment industry in South Africa to the number 1 and preferred entity that it is for the last few years as reviewed at the International Technical Productions Services Awards. #EnoughSaid

Have a lovely and blesssed day. Amen, Sela.
