What is Profit to You as a Person?
Have you ever thought of something, a great idea, that you thought would be worth pursuing? Most times it is about something to make you money. This usually happens in the middle of the night after you wake up and start thinking. It takes shape. It’s exciting. Your heart pumps a bit and the possibilities just light up your mind as you see it all coming together. The money coming in, the instant fame, the car of your dreams, the mansion. Oh the possibilities! In your midnight mind it is beyond possible, it is almost a reality.
As the adrenaline wears off and you snuggle back in your warm sheets, sleep sneaks in and envelops you and eventually strangles you. You wake up tired and realise you have a short time to prepare for work or school. That idea? It was a giant when you thought of it a few hours ago, now it wilts to a tiny weak puny boy. The same mind now has a thousand reasons why your idea does not work and tells you to go on with your life. It will never happen.
We all have been there, the ideas that occasionally plague us come again when we are suddenly motivated by a movie, an article, a tweet. Sometimes it is sheer greed and lust for the luxuries of life. Most times it is the pain of poverty. Situations in most people’s lives make them yearn for a change. I imagine that person you admire most went through the same dreams and vision and life pushed back. But the greatest of all questions in that situation is, did you push harder when life pushed back or you fell back and settled for failure, however you may define it.

One thing I have realised is it takes work to do something meaningful. Boring, laborious, painful and sickening work. Many of the things that make a significant impact in any sphere are made up of largely boring tasks. And that is the hard part of it all. I don’t want to fall into the trap of giving too many examples of the famous people we all know and then we try to mould our lives in their shape or form since this brings us away from reality. But I don’t want to ignore the good we can learn from them as well.?
The truth, most of the time, is no one will ever know you beyond your very small social or professional circle. Most people will never know your achievements beyond that circle, even scale it back further since it is often not publicised in any way.?
What do you consider success, what is profit to you? Since this is what we all want to get to, let's explore it in the best way we can. Learn. Celebrate. Fail. See. Hear. Laugh. Cry. Hope. Pray. Sigh. Live.
