What Percentage of Cardboard Is Recycled?

According to the American Forest & Paper Association, paper and cardboard are some of the most highly recycled materials in the United States. In 2022, the paper recycling rate was nearly 68%. The recycling rate for cardboard boxes, also known as corrugated containers (OCC), was just above 93% that same year.

The AFPA went on to state that more than two-thirds of the paper used in the U.S. is recycled and used to make new sustainable paper products that people and businesses use every day—equating to roughly 50 million tons of paper.

That amount of recovered paper and cardboard would fill:

??????? More than 4,000 Washington Monuments

??????? Nearly 120 Empire State Buildings

??????? Rail cars stretching from New York to Los Angeles almost three times

While different recycling facilities accept different types of recyclable materials, our Dallas-based corrugated cardboard recycling plant accepts any of the following:

??????? Old corrugated cardboard (OCC)

??????? Industrial corrugated

??????? Loose or baled cardboard boxes

??????? Doubled-lined Kraft (DLK)

??????? Flat cardboard

??????? Gaylord’s

??????? Chipboard

??????? Box board

??????? Kraft multi-wall bags

??????? Kraft paper
