What are the production areas of marble in foreign countries? (II)
04. Introduction to Türkiye stone
Türkiye is one of the oldest marble-producing countries in the world, with a production history of more than 4000 years. The earliest origin was Marmara Island, located in the Marmara Sea, where white marble is abundant. 90% of Türkiye’s marble mines are located in the west of Türkiye, among which Marmara Island, the Aegean Sea area, and Afiyon Province are particularly important. There are more than 250 varieties of marble mined in Türkiye, of which more than 100 are exported abroad.
Türkiye marble has many advantages, such as good quality, various varieties, bright colors, and beautiful patterns. Due to the introduction of modern processing machinery (mainly imported from Italy) and the use of advanced processing technology, the quality of marble production has been continuously improved in recent years, which is not only widely used in domestic buildings, but also exported to other countries in large quantities. Louis XIII, Cave Stone, Violet Red, Golden Century Beige, Magnolia, Ultraman, Deep Brown Net, Emperor Gold, Oman Beige, and various beige marble.
The main mining areas include Eradze, Diyarbakir, Bursa, Adiaman, Amasia, Bursa, Bilejik, Antalya, Bursa, and Ispalta.
Elaze region
This region is the earliest procurement area that Chinese buyers entered, with the characteristic variety being the main variety in China’s marble market, Ziluo Red, at the end of the 20th century.
The background color of this product is purple-red, with a white irregular texture. The disadvantage is that there are relatively developed black bile and ore body cracks, and the proportion of large waste materials is relatively small. Therefore, some buyers of Yunfu in China will purchase some irregular and unformed rockery materials, which will be cut back to China and then laid flat on a fixed frame. The splicing part is made of broken marble particles and powder, and bonded with resin adhesive to form a large board, with exquisite workmanship, Can achieve a certain effect.
There are also white and gray mocha varieties in the region, and the miners of straight-grain white jade have built factories and yards in the area, which are also traded here.
Diabakir
This region is close to the Elaze region, and it is also the region where Türkiye started marble development and application earlier. The main varieties are Sahara beige, royal beige, Rosaline beige, tiger beige, Routh beige, Middle East beige, platinum beige, and rose pink. They are the main varieties in China’s market at the end of the 20th century and the beginning of this century. However, the varieties in this region are relatively soft, and some have obvious bedding structures, It is prone to the phenomenon of alkali and slurry return.
In addition, the area belongs to the Kurdish armed activity area, and in 2009, a mine was occupied by these militants for a month; In recent years, the war-torn Syrian IS-occupied area has also threatened security here. With the discovery and mining of marble in other regions, this area has gradually been forgotten by Chinese buyers, and there are very few manufacturers for distribution.
Bursa region
The varieties in this region all have the characteristics of delicate materials and good toughness. The earliest varieties were Century Beige and Golden Butterfly, with a white background named Century Beige and a pink pattern named Golden Butterfly. The material of this variety is delicate and stable, and it is loved by consumers. Mining began at the end of the 20th century, but due to underground mining, the production was not significant.
The traditional best-selling products in the region include Golden Century and Old Mine Light Brown, both of which have a golden yellow background and a uniform mesh pattern, making them the main varieties from the beginning of this century to 2010. At present, some mines of these two varieties have been closed due to resource depletion or water source protection. Rising star gold leaf beige, named after irregular patterns with crystal color, also has the characteristics of delicate materials and high cost-effectiveness. It is an important supplement to the beige series in the current domestic market.
Bilejik region
The region is adjacent to the Bursa region, and the most famous varieties are Emperor Gold, Sofitel Gold, Golden Lotus, and Golden Rose, which also have the characteristics of fine texture and good toughness. Sofitekin has 7-8 mines in the local area, with an overall output that is astonishing and easy to meet the quantity requirements of large-scale projects. It is still the main variety in the market, with the white ground fine flower being particularly popular among consumers. At present, there are not many distributors of Emperor Jin in China, and Jin Furong and Jin Rose are contracted and sold by stone companies in Shuitou. There are also varieties such as cream roses and Chanel gold in the region.
Adiaman
The region is famous for producing crystal light coffee (also known as Finnish gold coffee), which has the advantages of delicate materials and good toughness. Compared to old mineral light coffee, the quality is more stable. The disadvantage is that some mines have small holes in the raw materials, which are not easy to process. In addition, the translucent light green crystal gallbladder is still an important supplement to the market.
Amasia
Oman beige and platinum century are the marble business cards of the region, with the advantages of delicate materials and good toughness. Among them, the Oman beige has a unique wave-shaped pattern. The mining time of these two varieties is almost the same as that of the old shallow brown mine. Due to their delicate materials, distinctive characteristics, and irreplaceable nature, they have been enduring since entering the Chinese market and are still important supplements to the market.
Denizli
Long ago, even before BC, cave stones were widely used in European countries. The ancient Roman Colosseum and churches in Italy were built with cave stones, which can be said to witness the famous development and changes of humanity and carry the vicissitudes of history. In the modern developed country of the United States, it has also been widely loved and sought after by consumers. Denizley’s cave stones began to be excavated and mined as early as the mid to late 20th century, but it was not until around 2005 that they were sought after by Chinese buyers. I remember during that time, there were over 40 Chinese buyers waiting to inspect the waste materials in a cave stone mine; The domestic market is also full of cave stones, and stone merchants cannot communicate without cave stones.
Antalya/Burdur/Ispalta/Mersin
The time of marble mining in these four regions is actually not too late. Firstly, it is the violet-red of Elaze, secondly, it is the white sand beige and Sofia of Antalya, and Louis XIII of Bourdur. Finally, it is Shakespeare and Louis XIV of Mersin.
In 2005, lightning beige began to come into the sight of Chinese buyers, and also let the above areas come into the sight of Türkiye’s mining operators. The exquisite materials, clean light beige background, and uniform, and less impurity texture, catered to the aesthetic and design trends of Chinese consumers, and in 2008, China’s 4 trillion yuan investment in infrastructure construction contributed to the success rate and return rate of mines in this area, It has become a legendary area of Türkiye’s marble mining industry.
These four regions are the regions with the highest concentration of marble mines and varieties in Türkiye, and also the regions with the highest concentration of Chinese buyers at present. According to industry estimates, there are about 500 Chinese stone dealers who live here all year round or purchase from this region frequently.
