What is Process Validation?
Process validation is a documented procedure for obtaining, recording, and interpreting the results required to establish that a process will consistently yield products complying with predetermined quality standards.
HPDC Machined Components Example:
Process Characteristics: These include variables like cutting speed, feed rate, depth of cut, coolant usage, tool type (e.g., carbide, high-speed steel), tool geometry, and machine settings (e.g., spindle speed, tool path).
Product Characteristics: These are attributes of the final machined aluminium components, such as dimensional accuracy, surface finish, tolerances, mechanical properties (e.g., hardness, tensile strength), and chemical composition integrity.
Building Relationship between Process and Product Characteristics:
Understanding Impact: Conduct a comprehensive analysis to understand how variations in process characteristics affect product characteristics. For instance, higher cutting speeds might result in smoother surface finishes but could also increase tool wear.
Optimization: Optimize process parameters based on desired product characteristics. This may involve adjusting cutting parameters, selecting appropriate tooling, optimizing coolant application, and ensuring machine calibration.
Control Plan Development: Develop a control plan outlining how each process characteristic will be monitored, controlled, and adjusted during production. This plan should address tool changes, maintenance schedules, quality checks, and data collection methods.
Validation Testing: Conduct validation tests by machining sample components under standard operating conditions. Measure and evaluate product characteristics against predetermined quality standards. This includes using tools like calipers, surface profilometers, hardness testers, and chemical analysis for aluminum alloys.

Statistical Analysis: Utilize statistical methods such as Capability Analysis, Control Charts, and Process Capability Indices to monitor process performance and identify variations that may impact product quality. Implement corrective actions as necessary to maintain consistency.
Continuous Improvement: Establish continuous improvement processes by analyzing data from ongoing production, identifying trends, and implementing changes to enhance process efficiency and product quality over time.
The number of times a Product Characteristics needs to be validated with different alternative Process Characteristics
