What problems do UX designers solve?
User experience is a broad discipline because you must have skills in many different fields or at least know a little about them, you mainly want to know the product itself, but the most important thing is to "focus on the users" that this product wants to reach.
That is something quite difficult to achieve because you must not only satisfy the needs of the product but also the particular taste of many users, each using different devices, consuming the product from a unique perspective.
Users want simplicity when consuming web content because in just a few seconds they evaluate the design of a website, so you must make it clear in a few steps:
- Don't make it difficult to find action buttons.
- Visually focus attention on the main button versus a bunch of buttons on the home page.
- Constantly reconsider what your app or site can do to make it easier to use.
- Know the particular tastes in common of the base user.
Part of the design makes it highly usable for most users and allows additional functionality to be hidden and made visible as needed, not shown in one go, but also provides a clear and consistent layout that is simpler for users.
They can then know what to expect when you reuse colors, behaviors, and aesthetics, reducing the need for them to discover the interface because when users are familiar with some of the design aspects, the process is clearer and easier to use.
After an interview, this particular issue arose from a user's opinion problem, he wants to find a playlist so he can have "better focus while he studies".
By understanding the difficulties of users, some ideas emerged on how to improve their experience:
First sketch
- This simple sketch introduces the idea of a button that takes you directly to the playlist results, which aren't bad at all when you search the "playlist" section within the app.
Second sketch
- The main idea for this design is that users will be able to toggle On or Off in their Spotify Desktop app, new functionality to create customized playlists based on their search.
- Thereby Spotify will create at least three recommended playlists for the user based on their behavior, music taste, and previously liked songs.
The final choice was to include a small button in the search bar, using that extra space that leads directly to the playlist section, it does not require excessive changes in the design of the application, it does not change its main behavior and the results are quite successful in terms of user wishes.
