What is privilege?

Since you're reading this -- online -- in a relatively safe environment, I would guess, would you consider yourself privileged?

I'm not one to use that word often -- privilege has always sounded so proud, arrogant and snotty. And yet over the past few days it's been coming into my awareness, and I truly believe I am privileged. I have everything I could ever need. I have wonderful people around me. I'm drinking Gevalia Kaffee coffee out of a Keurig this morning, typing on my MacBook while glancing at my iPhone every few minutes. I kissed my loved one goodbye this morning, walked the dog and will travel safely across town to meet incredible people today.

Why am I privileged? Why was I born here, under these circumstances, with this personality and mind?

Ponder as much or as little as you'd like. I have been.

And what I am discovering is I am privileged to be able to privilege others. I am privileged to be able to invest that Goodness I have been granted (and some that I have created) with the World.

The World, Meghan?

Yes -- the World. One person at a time. One conversation at a time. In person and online. On micro levels and macro levels.

Whatever privilege you have been given -- whatever platform you are standing on....Maybe it's time to ask yourself why you're here. Now. At this time.

"Your playing small does not serve the world...As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. And as we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." - Marianne Williamson
