Ask political #BHAQs about our future

What do courageous leaders do?

Our leaders and political systems currently lack the competence to solve the complex web of interdependent wicked problems in the 21st century. In effect, our leadership development and executive leadership coaching programs across the private-public-political sectors are broken, fragmented and disconnected to address the "what, how and why" for leading and co-designing an equitable, regenerative and sustainable future (#ERSF).

We have an "i" leadership abundance of "what" ego-centric saviors: the content creators of esoteric theories, constructs, models, maps, toolboxes and solutions. But this self-centered "what" is disconnected from the universal "We" and separated from the collaborative "how" and to the meta "why".

We have a "We" leadership scarcity of "how" networkers: the process creators who connect the dots to scale up the network power needed to exponentiate positive impacts for the greater good of all. What matters most is not the dots themselves, but the relational and partnership processes between the dots. The spaces in-between co-create the open innovation cultures and dynamic generative approaches needed for addressing the deep root causes of our mega-problems.

What we need are courageous leaders who have the humility to recognize their incompetencies and the limitations of their visions in solving our mega-problems: in particular, the exacerbating impacts of the Covid pandemic and global warming on inequities.

Courageous leaders make lifelong commitments to the meta "why": redress inequitism and promote equitism in order to build an #ERSF. This vision calls for overcoming our divisive dysfunctional polarizations arising from political and religious fundamentalisms that enable inequitism.

Inequitism amplifies inequities.

Inequitism is the foul play of implicit bias and prejudice that create an uneven playing field of unfair advantages for the few against the many.?

Equitism enhances equity.

Equitism is the fairness, fair play and fair rules of?impartial equanimity needed to create an even playing field of fair opportunities and prosperity for all.?

Equity is about designing systems and cultures that give everyone fair opportunities to achieve their highest potential of healthy well-being and the virtues needed to amplify human flourishing for the greater good of all.

  • Why are the UN Sustainable Development Goals and Environmental Social Governance fundamentally flawed in redressing inequitism and in reversing inequities?

These initiatives lack the virtues of truth-seeking and equity governance as their lead co-attractors for inspiring transformational change.?Paradoxically, a focus on regeneration and sustainability without focusing on these virtues will make inequities worse.

What is the impact of #BigHairyAudaciousQuestions (#BHAQs)?

#BHAQs (such as the one above) generate dialogues that can trigger strong emotional reactions, both negative and positive. Your emotional reactivity provides insights into your own implicit and explicit biases but also into how your priorities in virtues and values differ from others.

The reflexes of emotional reactivity can evoke defensive mechanisms (projections, insult-defend-offend chain reactions, etc) and regression to closed-minded, dichotomous (either/or) thinking: I am right and you are wrong. These emotional reflexes inhibit the curiosity and open-mindedness of the beginner's mind and prevent the mind from shifting away from reacting with self-righteous closed-mindedness and responding with humility and open-mindedness.

It takes self-awareness to make this shift in order to respond more effectively to these questions.

How can we:

  • Create civil spaces to better understand people with whom we disagree?
  • Find middle ground while agreeing to disagree (such as the differences between objective facts and subjective opinions)?
  • Seek truth given our differences and sustain our common humanity?

Ask political #BHAQs

Equity muses ask #BHAQs to challenge leadership mindsets. They facilitate generative dialogues across the political divides to inspire, co-create and design an #ERSF.

How can we:

  • Overcome our psychological naivety about the dark sides of fake patriotism (megalomania, narcissism and sociopathy) and inequitism?
  • Redress the leadership incompetencies, the systemic corruption and the political toxic stress disorder (PTSD) arising from fake patriotism?
  • Shed the light of true patriotism and equitism (the virtuous actions of altruism, empowerment and transparent accountability) to illuminate the shadow of the dark side?
  • Reverse the downward spiral into the amoral abyss and ascend the upward spiral toward virtuous actions?
  • Concurrently de-construct the dysfunctional aspects of our legacy systems and build an #ERSF?
  • Rise above political fundamentalism, de-escalate dysfunctional political polarizations and move beyond polarity management?
  • Cultivate the equity governance, tri-polarity stewardship, distributive leadership, deliberative democracies, transparent accountability, justice systems and evergreen economies needed to scale up transformational change?
  • Align public, private and political leadership in ways that heal the great divides within and between these sectors?
