At what point in life did you begin to learn how to know yourself?

At what point in life did you begin to learn how to know yourself?

It was 2003 and I was miserable. I had a great paying job. Making 6 figures and I was stressed to the max. Life was not fun. At the time, my then husband and I had maxed ourselves out financially. Nice house, fancy cars, pool table, big tv, yada, yada, yada...

"We were living the American dream."

Bullshit.

I was working my ass off to make ends meet. We did all the things. We had a life full of things, yet there was no way that I could change the course that we were on. As I have looked back at that time in my life, I really was out of touch with my intuition.

I was living on auto pilot and not listening to what my heart and soul needed.

I didn't even know how to listen. Even after that marriage ended, it took me another 5 years to even begin to learn, much less understand, what I was missing.

I was still chasing some dream. I had a knowing that there was something "out there" for me.

I had a yearning for more.

I had a desire to walk my own path - to cut through the bullshit and navigate my own course.

I made a ton of mistakes trying to figure it out.

But the lessons... each time I fell flat on my face I learned something new. Something not to do. Something to do differently. Something to change. Simply something.

In that 5 year period I began to learn how to know myself. Separating from a young marriage, stepping out into new pathways, seeking new career and entrepreneurial opportunities, sifting through myths and untruths from childhood and early adulthood, discovering me.

When I look back on that time, I wonder what would have changed if I would have had a guide or mentor to help me navigate those murky and muddy waters.

At what point in life did you begin to learn how to know yourself?
