This is my son, Duffy, networking and promoting his business at the TAPS Gala last week. He is 11 and a 1/3 business owner with his two friends in Ukraine. The three kids have a drop shipping site; Duffy is responsible for promotion in the US market. He takes his role serious, and reports his activity during their weekly meetings.
When I was a kid my friends lived next door, played on the same soccer team, or attended the same church. These days the world is made smaller by the access to technology our children have. Kids all over the world game together, communicate through Discord, and share memes on Instagram.
Duffy has friends all over the world. Sometimes they don't even speak the same language. Currently, his best friends are in Ukraine; his friend group spans Africa, Asia, Europe, N. and S. America. The children are forging friendships all over the world regardless of race, religion, language, politics, etc. They are brought together by Minecraft, Fortnite, and other games. They have fun, laugh and bond while playing together. The friendships are real, and carry over into other aspects of their life. The kids share stories about their family and culture. They dream about meeting one day in real life at the same college or on vacation. They partner to create their version of the 'lemonade stand'.....now a drop shipping site.
So, when people ask me why I let my child game. I am going to share this story. [email protected]
