What is Plain Language?
Before we had our guest speaker come to class Deanna Lorianni and talk to us, I had no idea what plain/simple language was. After listening to her I was so intrigued by how it works and the thought process of getting to that end result of plain language. This concept is much more difficult than I thought it was going to be but at the end of the day it is to help people understand the meaning of words much better. An overall definition of plain language is the wording, structure, and design are so clear for users to easily find and understand the information that is given. It is important to make sure that the language that is getting transformed has the right message, it’s to the right audience, and to the right chanell of people. Without that it is tough to make words and phrases more simple. To put it even more simply, plain language is clarity and without clarity it is hard to understand information with many useless words that do not help at all. There are also three keys ares when it comes to transforming words into plain language and that is; build audience trust, improve efficiency, and save money. I found this quote from Leonardo da Vinci, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” and I love this quote because I feel that is truly what plain language is. At the end of the day it is to help us understand things in an easier way that we can fully comprehend.
