Have you seen those glammed-up and glamorous women who’ve been gracing our internet lately and wondered, “How do they achieve such beauty?” That’s what I thought when I first stumbled upon the world of classic and modern pin-ups. Then, I decided to do some investigating for myself. What I found during my deep dive into this exciting art form was truly inspiring and helps lift up your own self-esteem.

What is Pin-up photography?

Pin-up photography is a truly beautiful art form. It brings with it a certain class and elegance that is easy to appreciate. Pin-up photography began in the early 1900s, though it has since evolved into something that’s continually changing and growing as new standards and trends are brought forward by talented artists who create phenomenal photographs full of talent, passion, and dedication. If you’re wondering what pin-ups are all about and how they came to be so popular, this article is for you.

What is a Pin-up model?

A pin-up girl is a model whose sole objective is to present her best features, enhance her beauty and make herself attractive. The first pin-up drawings were created by Indians and often depicted nude women and goddesses from the art of Hindu culture. Later, France and England adopted pin-up drawings in their national wars.

The term “pin-up” dates back to World War I when soldiers would send home for photos of their wives, to be taped up on their walls, so they could be with them while they served their country. These pin-up girls were usually just posters or newspaper cutouts of models and actresses like Betty Grable or Rita Hayworth.

We’re living in a golden age of Pin-up, with an abundance of beautiful women willing to harken back to the “good ol’ days.” With true beauties like Dita Von Teese and Elizabeth W., our world is becoming the pin-up girl lovers’ dreamland. It’s no wonder there are those who seek to call us all “nerds.” Ultimately, though, it doesn’t matter what your opinion on pin-ups is: ladies can still get paid to be sexy and show their lovin’ for the vintage look.
