ALL individuals have a personal brand. Whether you like it or not. Your personal brand is both who you are and what you do. If you are already in the online space, you most likely have seen many personal brands coming out of the woodwork.
I personally think it’s great, it gives professionals a chance to be themselves, set themselves apart, and build a reputation that can help them personally and professionally.
Personal branding has drastically increased in significance because of the internet and social media. It seems that everyone these days is using the internet to learn more about each other. For example: employers, clients, and even potential dating partners.?
In fact, I love this quote by Tim Ferris, because it is so true: “Personal branding is about managing your name- even if you don’t own a business- in a world of misinformation, disinformation, and semi-permanent Google records. Going on a date? Chances are that your “blind” date has Googled your name. Going to a job interview? Ditto.”
According to personalbrand.com put simply “a personal brand is the effort to communicate and present your value to the world”. “A true personal brand is not a “surfacey” thing, it is an emotional connection.?
Anyone these days can use filters and fancy photography to have pretty pictures, but that is not what it takes to build a true personal brand. The goal when building your personal brand is to find what sets you apart (and makes you unique), building a reputation around the things you want to be known for.
