What is the PDSA Cycle?

The PDSA (Plan-Do-Study-Act) cycle is a structured, iterative process used for continuous improvement, often in healthcare and organizational settings. It encourages teams to test changes on a small scale, gather data, analyze results, and refine strategies. The cycle includes four stages:


  • Plan: Define goals and create an action plan
  • Do: Implement the change on a small scale and collect data
  • Study: Analyze the data to assess success
  • Act: Decide whether to adopt, adapt, or abandon the change.


This approach supports data-driven decision-making, learning, and gradual improvements for better outcomes and scalability.
