What is PART-CAMO?
In my other article introduced Subpart G, I missed to introduce Part CAMO, so I have add another quick read article for Part CAMO to tell the difference and implementation.
PART CAMO (Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation) is a regulatory framework introduced by EASA to replace Part-M Subpart G for the management of aircraft continuing airworthiness.
? Implementation Date: 24 March 2020.
? Mandatory Transition: All Part-M Subpart G approvals ceased to be valid after 24 September 2021.
? Purpose: Enhance safety and compliance by integrating modern Safety Management System (SMS) principles into the management of continuing airworthiness.
Key Features of PART CAMO
1. Safety Management System (SMS):
? Proactively identifies hazards, assesses risks, and implements mitigation strategies.
? Aligns with ICAO Annex 19 requirements for Safety Management.
2. Management System:
? Combines SMS with Compliance Monitoring, replacing the older Quality System used in Subpart G.
? Provides a holistic approach to managing airworthiness and safety risks.
3. Focus on Safety Culture:
? Encourages organisations to foster a safety-first mindset throughout all operational levels.
4. Applicability:
? Mandatory for organisations managing:
? Complex motor-powered aircraft (CMPA).

? Aircraft used for commercial air transport (CAT)
So…..Why the Change?
1. Improved Safety:
? Part-M Subpart G lacked a robust safety framework. PART CAMO addresses this by embedding SMS principles.
2. Global Alignment:
? PART CAMO aligns with ICAO’s global aviation safety standards, particularly Annex 19.
3. Efficiency and Risk Management:
? By introducing proactive measures, PART CAMO reduces the likelihood of incidents and regulatory non-compliance.
Transition Impact
? Organisations previously operating under Subpart G had to adapt their procedures, staff training, and systems to comply with PART CAMO.
? This includes adopting SMS, restructuring compliance monitoring, and fostering a proactive safety culture.
Conclusion: PART CAMO is a significant step forward from Subpart G, focusing on proactive safety management and a holistic approach to compliance. It modernises airworthiness management and ensures alignment with global safety standards, making aviation safer and more efficient. In a global context, Subpart G might still remains relevant for non-EASA states or regions that use EASA regulations as a reference but have not yet adopted Part-CAMO. Countries outside of Europe may still implement Subpart G or SMS for their own airworthiness management systems.
