What if our choices were guided by impact rather than legacy? [Monthly Love Letter for August 2024]

Every choice we make has an impact—positive or negative.

Whether we realize it or not, our choices create a ripple effect, and the impact of those choices extends far beyond ourselves. Our impact becomes bigger than us. It can be experienced by others. Yet, it cannot always be seen. And still, it can be felt in so many ways.

I have been reflecting a lot this past month on the impact of impact—even beyond the standard question of, "How do I want to be remembered?"

I realize that the impact I want to create, to be felt, seen, and experienced because of my choices, has nothing to do with how I want to be remembered.

Rather, I imagine this impact to be tethered to the mission of creating something bigger than myself—a universe of possibilities that can inspire others to wonder more, seek more, dream more, celebrate more, and choose more.

When I think of creating experiences, mementos, artifacts, and ecosystems that get to exist, provoke, and inspire far beyond myself, I am comforted knowing that I will never fully know the extent of the impact that will be made, felt, or experienced.

The beauty in not fully knowing the impact we contribute to creating is that there is so much potential for wonder to be co-created with others, rippling out in new ways beyond what we could ever have dreamed.

As I worked on redesigning my Celebrate Yourself Card Deck over the past month in preparation for production, I felt an excitement I haven’t experienced in a long time—a deep sense of sureness that this deck is just the beginning of bringing more magic into the world.

Since last fall, I have been bringing the prototype with me to workshops, speaking engagements, and online endeavors as my companion in sparking celebration. What I’ve observed is that the magic of these prompts and their responses has already rippled out and been felt beyond the spaces where they’ve been shared.

Even during the workshop where they first appeared, I had no idea that this tool, which I dreamed up on a whim, would become such a foundational part of my practice over the last nine months. They have become my trusted tool for inspiring and connecting people in ways neither they nor I could have imagined.

What excites me most is not yet knowing how they will continue to provoke, grow, inspire, and connect when they are finally released into the world, beyond my own two hands (more on this to come).

It’s because of these cards that Possibilities Universe was born—a home for a tool that I felt in my entire being would become much bigger than me, even without seeing all the ways that would be possible.

In this spirit, I extend an invitation to you: choose with intention, create with love, and embrace the unknown, trusting that the ripples we set in motion will inspire and uplift in ways we may never fully see, but which we can hope will be deeply felt.

Perhaps this is a moment where you can give yourself…
