What Now? Post COVID, Post Election...I am not "De LuLu"

We go through. We got through COVID. So now we are in "Post-COVID."

We are now in "Post Election."

Some of us are happy. Some of us are confused and angry or do not know the emotional word to use. Maybe…tired?

However, emotions are temporary. They are data. They are signals that tell our mind and body to "react." But do not dismiss them!

So, how can we get through this new normal...again?

This time period is a big self-regulation test… kind of, sort of. What can help?

Let's keep reading.

In today's world, being empathetic and mindful is more important than ever.

Empathy, the ability to understand and share another person's feelings, and mindfulness, the practice of being present in the moment, are not just qualities, but powerful tools. They are essential for building resilience, the ability to bounce back from what you may have defined as adversity. With these tools, you are capable of overcoming challenges.

Empathy and mindfulness can help us build healthy relationships with others. When we are empathetic, we can see things from another person's perspective. This can help us resolve conflict and build trust. When we are mindful, we are better able to listen to others and respond thoughtfully. This can help us communicate effectively and build strong relationships.

It is a conscious choice, however.

Why is it hard to be empathetic and mindful?

There are several reasons why people have a hard time being empathetic and mindful. One reason is that we are often so focused on our own thoughts and feelings that we don't have time to consider the feelings of others. Another reason is that we may fear rejection or hurt if we open ourselves up to others.

The less focused we are (or the more distracted we are), the harder it is to truly understand and care about others' feelings.

How Empathy and Mindfulness Build Resilience and Emotional Regulation

  • Emotional Regulation: By practicing empathy and mindfulness, we can better understand and manage our emotions. This can help us respond to challenges more constructively.
  • Empathy and mindfulness also play a crucial role in improving impulse control. Mindfulness practices, such as POWER OF THE PAUSE, can help us develop a more extraordinary ability to pause before reacting. This pause allows us to consider our options and respond more thoughtfully, giving us a sense of control and confidence.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Mindfulness helps us think clearly and creatively, which can help us find solutions to problems.
  • Relationship Building: Empathy and mindfulness can help us build stronger relationships. These relationships can provide support and encouragement during difficult times.
  • Positive Mindset: By focusing on the positive aspects of our lives, we can cultivate a more optimistic outlook. This can help us to bounce back from setbacks more quickly.

Empathy and mindfulness provide us with the tools to navigate our emotions, respond thoughtfully to situations, and build resilience. By cultivating these qualities, we can achieve greater self-regulation and live the life we desire, personally and professionally.

Tips and strategies to help individuals show up and lead not only others but themselves

  • Practice active listening. This means paying attention to what the other person is saying without interrupting.
  • Ask open-ended questions. This will help you to learn more about the other person's perspective.
  • Validate the other person's feelings. Let them know that you understand how they feel.
  • Offer support. Let the other person know that you are there for them.
  • Take time for yourself. This will help you to stay grounded and present.
  • Practice mindfulness exercises. This can help you to focus your attention and reduce stress.
  • Spend time in nature. This can help you to connect with yourself and others.

By practicing empathy and mindfulness, you cannot only build resilience and healthy relationships but also inspire others to do the same. Remember, empathy is a superpower, and mindfulness is the key to navigating life's challenges. Let's continue to inspire and motivate each other by showing up with empathy and mindfulness.
