What Neuralink Gets Wrong: Saving Humans.
I believe in innovation and taking giant leaps in computational technology in an effort to help humanity solve the world's biggest problems, but I believe with Neuralink we are solving for a problem that we may not clearly understand. We have accepted the narrative about the possibility of AI overlords without challenge and as such, has risen the need for super-human capabilities that can rule over the future AI bad-actors that Musk and other posit. Yet, I think this sells humanity short.
Humans are capable of curbing the destructive potential of AI and humans are capable of employing AI for the benefit of the broader community. We can use it to solve problems around climate change, food shortages, space travel, etc. And, we can use it to merge with our bodies to improve the latent computing power of our human minds: to be honest we will not stop or change this advancement. What we must do though is understand why we are doing this in order to create technology that truly serves our most pressing needs.
We don't need an symbiotic-AI because there are horrible AI in our future. We need symbiotic AI relationships because the potential to improve the life of every day people improves when we have advance technological power put to use for good.
When we rethink the scenario like that, we must call for extensive conversation, tests, action and engagement around the dialogue of AI-human mergers. I challenge the industry to look at Musk's efforts not as a fool's errand or the next global improvement from a tech genius, but rather as a societal question we should engage with broadly in an effort to take ownership of our technology rather than have it be assigned to us.

5 年There are - btw - at least 20 other companies doing similar work.?https://www.cbinsights.com/research/neurotech-startups-to-watch/
But what motivates humans more, fear or curiosity?

Categorically I'm a comms + marketing executive, novelist, and artist. I'm a hybrid professional: I have multiple career frames in which I connect people, places and ideas and activate them to drive impact.
