Narrow artificial intelligence (narrow AI) is?artificial intelligence?that is designed to perform a limited number of tasks or functions within a specific range of applications.

Unlike?general artificial intelligence, which seeks to mimic complex thought processes, narrow AI cannot autonomously apply knowledge gained from one task to a completely different task without additional training.

Most AI applications in use today can be categorized as being narrow AI. ChatGPT, for example, is considered to be an example of narrow AI. While the chatbot has some contextual awareness and can remember a user's previous interactions during a chat, its capabilities are limited to generating text-based responses.

Narrow AI may also be referred to as weak AI.
