What is My Purpose?

What is My Purpose?

It’s the age-old question that continuously gnaws at our insides as we journey through life. Some of us are awaiting that lightning bolt of recognition that will knock us off our feet, and others would be just as happy with the contemplative “Aha!” moment that enables us to move ahead assured of the imprint that we might leave behind. For many of us, the search is ongoing as we seek the answers or just AN answer to the question of purpose.??Who we are and why we are here?

Especially now when our world feels in a constant state of flux, it is helpful to get anchored in the “whys” of being. So many conversations eventually come around to the question of finding one’s passion and especially purpose. COVID has been an accelerator of both enabling time to ask the questions and in a very interesting way has given us a greater sense of permission to discover the answers.??

This was why I was excited by the recent opportunity to chat with Genevieve Piturro on Generation W’s REfresh Zoom series to talk about “Finding Your Purpose and Living it with Passion." It was Genevieve’s “Aha!” moment that began her purposeful journey. She was happy to share her learnings with us and provide some actionable ways to help us along in our own seeking.

  • ?Go alone to your “happy place” –?To travel the path to self-discovery, we must first establish a safe space where we can truly be ourselves. A quiet space amongst the chaos where you can think, feel, and breathe. This does not mean getting in a car, or jumping on a plane, although it could… just find that quiet spot that allows you to settle into your mind.
  • ?Write down a list of 10 things you love -?Manifesting your purpose begins with identifying your passions and desires. Think about the moments you feel most fulfilled and expand on why these make you feel that way. Write down all 10 of them, live with them, say them out loud. Then when you are ready, try to trim the list to just 3.
  • ?Spend time to explore –?The pathway to finding your purpose may not be paved. You may never know what that bump can trigger or what new direction that fork in the road can send you rambling down. So be open and spend time exploring. Finding the places you may not want to return to is as good as finding the ones you do.

We all lead such busy lives that it is easy to forget to take time to listen to and be inspired by others. I saw first-hand the magic that comes from these interactions at a recent gathering of 13 women, many of whom had never met before. As we each shared our stories, we discovered just how connected we are, and the evening became a tonic for our souls. You never know who could have a valuable nugget that could spark your purposeful journey.

Finding purpose and passion is essential...in order to live a fulfilling life.?You really shouldn't be spending your days doing anything that doesn't fulfill you. While it definitely takes time to figure out what that is, the journey is worth it.?The funny thing about passion is…once you find it, it becomes even easier to pursue in the future.? When you know what you love, finding ways to enjoy it is simple. Through travel, writing, community work, volunteerism, etc. Thanks for posting.
