What My Friends Say About Me Behind My Back

What My Friends Say About Me Behind My Back

Have you ever wondered what your friends say about you when you're not around? After all, they are the people that know you the best. My curiosity got the best of me, and I asked my friends what they say about me behind my back. Through this exercise, I was able to get a glimpse into what parts of myself are critical to my personality.

I will preface this by admitting that my friends are a little too nice, so they only pointed out my best qualities. Here’s what they had to say, and what they didn’t say.

A few of my beautiful friends!

Motivated and Determined

My friends say that I am motivated and determined – two things that I strive to be. This means that I am someone who knows what I want and who runs after it. Whether that be in school, professional life or hobbies, I’m all in.

Generous, Selfless and Supportive

Generous surprised me because, fun fact, I am the worst gift-giver I know. However, I’m positive that my friends were speaking to the point that I love making the people around me feel valued.

Forgiving, Thoughtful and Dependable

While I view my ability to forgive quickly as both a strength and a struggle, I challenge myself to give the people around me the benefit of the doubt. I try to think about every situation from all perspectives, something that doesn’t come easily to me.

Disciplined and Energetic

Now we are getting into the nitty gritty of my personality. While I value my daily routine, I try to balance this seriousness with energy. The more I see you, the more I talk and the more enthusiasm I bring. One of my friends mentioned that, “Karsyn is the type of person to make everyone feel like a someone and get them to laugh all day with her.” Life has its serious moments, but laughing even when stressed is more valuable than you might think.

Silly and Easy to Be Around

While I am serious about my goals, I’m not all work and no play. If you’ve ever seen me in public with my friends, you might be surprised to see my silly side come out. One of my friends even described me as a “part time comedian,” which might be my favorite compliment ever. Life doesn’t always have to be serious. It’s okay to show your silly sometimes!

Smart, Positive and Hardworking

I am eager to learn and grow – whether that be by continuing my education or constantly learning something new. Life is not a linear path; we all have our struggles. But I have found that positivity is the best way for me to get through challenges.

More friends!

Now let’s talk about what they didn’t say

Wow, it really does sound like I’m trying to toot my own horn. As I mentioned, my friends are too nice. So, let’s talk about what they missed. I struggle letting myself take breaks, which can lead to burnout. I struggle feeling like I am enough to be successful and feeling that I am always a step behind. I have a short attention span (I am working on it, I promise) and my brain goes a mile a minute. Of course, there is more, but my point here is that while this exercise was meant to expose all sides of my personality, there are always things that people miss in their perception of you.

However, if you’ve ever wondered what your friends say about you when you're not around, go ahead and ask them! It will expose the most important parts about who you are.

Your amazing positive qualities FAR outshine your perceived shortfalls! I think it's great to include an introspective look at what was unsaid, and I'm proud of you for tackling those challenges. Keep learning and growing!
