What my first week at the new job taught me

Principal Engineer at SACO AEI Polymers | Extrusion | Capital Projects | Plastics
The previous week, I had my dream come true of starting a full-time job as a Process Engineer. Full of anxiety and excitement, as I entered the team at SACO AEI Polymers, I understood how much the first interaction is important in a workplace. Now that I have spent one full week at the company, here are a few things which I took away from my first week.
1. It takes me to make the we – Everyone is good at heart and welcoming by nature, but it takes you to develop relations. Sure, people keep coming and offer help, but it is your duty to go ahead, introduce yourself and become a part of team.
2. Being humble is a two-way process – My work involves interacting with process operators for a considerable amount of time. To be able to understand them better, I decided to have a conversation with whoever I could. A small greeting and an act of humbleness was the best way to break the ice. By the end of each conversation, I could see us connecting more and building credibility.
3. Quality is important, but safety is first – Putting people before profits goes a long way in growth of any organization. The workforce is the biggest asset of any company. Every step towards their safety creates a sense of dedication. I realized it through my managers and supervisor’s concern towards my safety which naturally inflected me to be more dedicated and productive.
I am sure a lot of you can resonate with my thoughts and experience if you have already had your first day at work. And if you haven’t yet, I hope you can take away an idea of how it will look like.
