What are you giving power to?
Over the past 4+ weeks I have been safe-at-home with my husband, our dog and my bathroom scale. Knowing that lots of Netflix, food and drink while wearing sweat pants most of the time combined with little exercise and fresh air is a recipe for weight gain, I found myself stepping on the bathroom scale several times a day.
I learned that if I move it around on the floor, the numbers go up and down. If I step on it first thing in the morning then double check after I drink a cup of coffee, I can ‘gain’ as much as 2 lbs. You get it…it is completely unreliable.
Why then, does a low number still make me feel better than a higher number? That got me thinking about other arbitrary, external yardsticks we use to measure our self-worth and how completely useless (and sometimes demoralizing) they are.
Thanks to my bathroom scale, I’m committed to spending more time looking within and giving myself credit for what I know I am rather than giving in to the temptation to look for external ratings!
