What Must Recruiters Look for in a CV to Hire a Remote Worker

In the age of digital communication where laptops, smartphones and high-speed internet have become the basic necessities of life, an increasing number of professionals are moving away from the conventional office setting to opt for remote working. Recruiting a remote candidate, however, is different from hiring professionals to work in the office. Remote workers must possess special attributes for them to be trusted and given the opportunity to work independently.

With more and more enterprises now planning to offer work-from-home opportunities, hiring the right candidate can be a daunting task for recruiters. While a candidate's résumé can never be the ultimate proof his or her commitment towards the role or the organization, screening the CV does make your job as a recruiter easy. You can analyze the candidate based on the soft skills, strengths, length of former job stints and references mentioned in the CV.???

Here are 6 attributes that recruiters must look for in a candidate’s CV before offering him/her for a work-from-home opportunity.

1.???Self-motivation

The CV must be able to convey the candidate’s dedication towards his/her career and job. Long standing association with former employers can reflect this. The CV must also depict the candidate’s enthusiasm to work. Motivated workers are self-driven, making them valuable resources for employers. Achievements in the CV illustrate a professional’s commitment towards getting the job done. This approach helps you hire go-getters who are result-oriented and dedicated to delivering work and meeting deadlines.

2.???Attention to detail

Look for references that highlight the candidate as detail oriented. Candidates who present highly specific information and offer quantitative details in their CV are the ones who will submit proofread drafts of work, remember small details, ask the right kind of questions and offer constructive feedback. They don’t shy away from initiating communication and convey information accurately, making them reliable. To find such an employee, make sure your job description is echoed back in the CV. If you said that attention to detail was important, did the candidate mention it in the CV? Did they pick up on the right keywords? You should know immediately.

3.???Aptitude for technology

With enterprises embracing digital transformation, remote working is gaining popularity. Heavily powered by technology, remote working as a concept requires professionals to communicate and collaborate over multiple digital platforms. Thus, potential candidates using the latest platforms for communication is a good indicator of digital fluency. To hire a candidate adept in technology, make sure the CV portrays him/her as tech-savvy and mentions a few tech platforms they’ve worked on in the past. These resources must also possess basic knowledge about cybersecurity, cloud technologies and workflow management software used by the business.

4.???Ability to work independently

Remote workers are likely to be more successful if they are able to work by themselves. Search the CV for instances that display that the candidate has had former work experience of working independently and has enjoyed it. Also look for problem-solving skills that help them think on their feet. They should still be able to convey, over email or a phone call, if they are facing a challenge or need some task carried out by their colleague. Such candidates do not take undue advantage of the physical absence of a manager and work effectively even when away from the office.

?5.???Adaptability

When the CV highlights the person’s creative thinking ability to find innovative solutions or his/her decision-making skills in ambiguous environments, you know that this professional is adaptable and resilient. Such resources are flexible when asked to work on new tasks and remain composed when faced with new challenges and disruption.?

?The key to finding the right resource is to extensively search the CV and extract success stories from the facts disclosed. The above attributes and soft skills will indicate if a candidate has what it takes to be the high-performing remote worker your organization is searching for. These proficiencies may have been developed with experience over the years or with the right kind of skill enhancement training. Leverage the information made available to you in the CV, shortlist professionals based on it and you will eventually find the right fit for your organization.??

I completely agree. In my view , it is also very important to check the capabilities?of a manager(people manager) to lead team(virtually) and how effectively ?s/he manages . As managers are more responsible to extract work from the team, they have to showcase their abilities ?and find the ways to increase the efficiency. Collaboration is very important and it is bit challenging as you(manager) need to stay constantly connected to your team members ?who will be working from different locations.
