"What Must I Do to Please God?" – Day 12 of 14: Rejoice in Him Always

Introduction

Today, on the twelfth day of our series on “What Must I Do to Please God?”, we turn our attention to rejoicing in Him always. A heart that rejoices in the Lord brings God great delight, as it reflects gratitude, trust, and a focus on His goodness. Psalm 150 is a beautiful invitation to praise and rejoice in the Lord with our whole being, no matter the circumstances. When we choose to rejoice in God, we acknowledge His sovereignty, His love, and His faithfulness in all areas of life.

Rejoicing in God is not only an act of obedience but also an act of faith. It calls us to lift our eyes above our challenges and fix them on God’s eternal nature and promises. True joy comes from a heart that delights in the Lord and recognizes His worthiness of all our praise. Today’s scripture highlights the call to rejoice in Him always, allowing praise to shape our perspective and align us with God’s heart.

Psalm 150 (AMP): "Praise the Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary; Praise Him in His mighty heavens! Praise Him for His mighty acts; Praise Him according to [the abundance of] His greatness! Praise Him with trumpet sound; Praise Him with harp and lyre. Praise Him with tambourine and dancing; Praise Him with stringed instruments and flute. Praise Him with resounding cymbals; Praise Him with loud cymbals. Let everything that has breath and every breath of life praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah!)"

Context of Psalm 150

Psalm 150 is the final psalm in the Book of Psalms and serves as a powerful call to worship. It captures the spirit of rejoicing in God, calling on everyone and everything that has breath to praise Him. The psalmist lists various instruments and acts of praise, illustrating that worship is not limited to one form. Instead, it is a full expression of joy, gratitude, and reverence toward God. Each line builds in intensity, creating a crescendo of praise that points to God’s greatness.

Psalm 150 reminds believers that rejoicing in God is essential to worship. This call to “praise the Lord” encourages us to honor Him in every way possible, from using our voices to playing instruments. This psalm reminds us that rejoicing in God is an act of faith, reflecting a heart that recognizes and celebrates His power, love, and goodness.

Rejoice in Him Always

Key Phrase: "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord."

To rejoice in God always is to live with a heart that continually celebrates His presence, power, and faithfulness. Rejoicing in God is not dependent on our circumstances but on who God is. The call to “praise Him for His mighty acts” is an invitation to reflect on God’s works, His creation, and His grace. Rejoicing includes gratitude, thanksgiving, and delighting in all God has done, is doing, and will do. This rejoicing is a reminder that no matter what we face, God’s goodness is constant and His love is unwavering.

By choosing to rejoice, we align our hearts with God’s heart, acknowledging that He is worthy of our praise in every season. Rejoicing in God is an expression of faith, one that allows us to see beyond our circumstances and focus on His greatness and goodness.

Philippians 4:4 (AMP): "Rejoice in the Lord always [delight, take pleasure in Him]; again I will say, rejoice!"

Paul’s words in Philippians reinforce the command to rejoice, emphasizing that our joy is found in the Lord. This joy transcends our situation, reminding us that God is our source of true happiness.

Relevance to Today’s Believers: For believers today, rejoicing in God is a powerful way to stay grounded in faith. In a world that often focuses on circumstances, choosing to rejoice in the Lord lifts our perspective above life’s challenges. Rejoicing is a spiritual practice that keeps our hearts aligned with God, reminding us of His faithfulness and goodness.

In difficult times, rejoicing helps us to remember that God is still in control. It is an act of surrender, where we let go of worry and choose to celebrate God’s presence in our lives. This act of joy allows us to draw closer to God, trusting Him with everything and experiencing peace that only He can provide. When we rejoice, we also encourage those around us, creating a ripple effect of faith, hope, and gratitude. Let me give you some perspective on God’s greatness and majesty, the scripture says,"Let everything that has breath praise the Lord." I want to think about what has breath; humans, animals, plants and even the very earth itself, that we live on has breath and is therefore called on to praise the Lord! So then how much more should His creation that He gave dominion over all of that Praise Him! Selah! (Pause and think about that)

The Whole of What It Means to Please God

While today’s focus is on rejoicing in God, this practice connects to the larger commitment of living a life that pleases Him. Over the past days, we have examined essential elements such as surrendering to God, being transformed by the renewal of our minds, and living as ambassadors for Christ. Rejoicing in God is an essential practice that enhances each of these steps by aligning our hearts with His joy and truth. To please God, we must embrace joy in His presence, recognizing that our delight in Him reflects our faith and trust.

Psalm 100:4 (AMP): "Enter His gates with a song of thanksgiving And His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, bless and praise His name."

This scripture captures the heart of worship, encouraging us to approach God with thanksgiving and praise. Rejoicing in God is an act of worship that reflects a life centered on Him.
