What was the move like from Tech to PwC?

Maybe it's because I've just passed my?1 year anniversary?after making the jump from Tech to Professional services and I'm feeling reflective but I also find a lot of people asking me 'Was I glad I made the move?' and 'What is it really like?' ?

In a nutshell, I've made some fantastic new friends and colleagues, seen new parts of the world, spoken at really great conferences like the Funds Congress in London, attended some influential moments in AI history - Le Cheile 100, the Houses of the Oireachtas meetings. With the launch of the PwC GenAI Business centre, a first for PwC and first for Ireland I was able to continue working with great colleagues and friends from Microsoft. And as part of building our Alliances practice build new connections with SAP and Salesforce amongst others. We celebrated the? IMAGE Media Business Woman of the Year Leaders in style - a fantastic celebration of Women Leaders . When I look back,? I feel like I made a difference, I worked hard but I've also been there for my family, friends and? of course found time for the great outdoors - not bad for year 1.?

Although some might think it's a big jump from Tech to Professional services,? it helps a lot that?I haven't actually left Tech because we do so much of it! ...The main focus we have is to use tech to deliver outcomes for our clients - so whether its a Financial Transformation that requires a? SAP deployment or a migration to SAP4Hanna, whether its a client needing Harvey for Tax automation or deploying and ensuring adoption of a Microsoft Generative AI - M365 CoPilot across an organisation as part of a Workforce change programme we use technology to power every transformation. Our teams spend every day either building technology that sits on Alliance partner platforms or deploying it and ensuring it gets adopted safely and securely.???

Something that did surprise me when I joined was I didn't realise how much?work the Irish firm did globally?or for Global/EMEA HQ organisations in Ireland; the benefit of this for Innovation and rich strategic thinking is crucial.? Wonderful of course for Ireland as a country but it also gives us a much wider deeper perspective on world trends that might affect organisations in Ireland for our clients - this really helps organisations see what? is coming down the line whether its emerging technologies, innovative operating models, threats, or indeed opportunities for new business models .....our clients can use this insight to disrupt traditional models for growth.??

What I've found in PwC is an?agile organisation focused on Innovation?for Clients.? For example, many of our clients were struggling with figuring out how to use AI/GenerativeAI and our response......was to launch the first?GenAI Business Centre at Spencer Dock.?Why? because for years we'd been dealing with emerging technologies - how to adopt and deploy it safely and so we were in a good position to help inform our Clients how to use it the right way. We also produced the first Irish GenAI survey to help organisations understand potential impact on Jobs, Culture, Governance, Business models etc. from GenAI and AI. Helping a market move at scale with better clarity, support and readiness.?

Which is all well and good if you are a client, but what's it like to really work here??Do I like it ? .....I do!?... I find it a very open, collegiate environment -? Maybe because at its core it's an organisation that?solves problems?- pretty much everyone at every level is searching for an answer about something or thinking about a future issue ...? they are taking in lots of different inputs - so it's pretty?inclusive?by its nature. If you aren't working on a client you are working on PwC and how to improve the future of the organisation - for example, how we use technology for Auditing, Tax and Transformation so we can bring those learnings to our clients….. that DNA comes across daily.

Of course it's a big firm and this is only my experience of it? but I'm a year in so the 'rose coloured glasses' are off.? I really like the focus?on progress?and impact?rather than activity, it's a flexible workplace?that cares about their people. I love the ‘Green light to talk’ initiative and the extensive?well-being?programme - I think the Firm acknowledges the support that everyone needs some days? - this is really embedded and you can feel that in the tone on a day to day basis.?

Looking ahead to the next few months,? I’m excited about how we can help our clients use technology to accelerate their transformation journeys but I'm also excited about some of the global work we are doing and the level of impact we can have for Ireland … that will really make a difference. And, Halloween well, it's just around the corner so I'll have a little lady out trick or treating... and costumes to pick!
