Motivation is one of those things that can oscillate quite dramatically depending on different factors.
What’s more those factors are different for each of us depending on what makes us tick.
For some of us, motivation is gathered from external sources. So for example, friends, family, your immediate surroundings.
The pursuit of praise or recognition, money or fame will drive motivation in some but not others.
For others, motivation can be intrinsic and obtained from within. Examples of this are when we are aligned with our values and the things that are vitally important to us. Intrinsic motivation can also come from our desire to achieve or succeed. It’s possible that our motivation can come from our need for pleasure or our desire to avoid pain.
Whatever it is that motivates you, it’s important to tap in to it as this is what drives your behavior and consequently the results that you get in both your life and your business.
Social, emotional and biological factors will all feed in to our level of motivation. Like any form of construction, the raw materials and the component parts all have their role to play.
If you find you’re lacking motivation, and you’re not sure why, pay particular attention to your social environment, your emotional state or how you’re feeling about certain aspects of your life and any biological factors. For example, hormone changes and or nutrition.
Motivation acts as a conduit for change and can ultimately determine whether or not you achieve your goals.
So be true to yourself, stay congruent with your values and do the occasional body scan to quickly asses the influencing factors.
Lastly, where does your motivation come from? Is it extrinsic or intrinsic?
