What motivates you?

The transition from the carefree embrace of summer to the introspective aura of fall brings with it a deeper reflection. As I watch the leaves starting to change, I'm reminded of a time when understanding our own motivations was effortless — our childhood.

As children, we acted on pure, intrinsic motivation. We did things simply for the joy of doing them, without seeking external rewards or validation. Our days were led by curiosity, passion, and genuine delight.

Yet, as adults, we accumulate layers of experiences, expectations, and societal pressures. This 'baggage' can cloud our intrinsic drives, making us sometimes forget what truly ignites our spirit. Fall, in its wisdom, offers a chance to shed these layers, much like trees letting go of their leaves.

It's a season that invites us to delve deep, to reconnect with that childlike essence, and to ask:?

What brings out the best in us?

What truly matters?

There was a time in my life when I was carrying around a collection of baggage that did not rightfully belong to me but I was not able to separate it from what truly drove me.?

Just about ten years ago I was introduced to Pathwise Leadership and began my first set of classes.

In the beginning, we started with the basics, learning to suspend attention and be truly present in any situation and to not lose our cool, even in the most stressful and complicated situations. The heightened awareness which comes from being present has helped me to better understand my surroundings and cut through complicated situations.

One of my most memorable classes was about Intrinsic Motivation, which refers to the driving force that stems from within an individual, compelling them to act or behave in a certain way because it's personally rewarding or fulfilling. Unlike extrinsic motivation, which is fueled by external rewards or pressures, intrinsic motivation is kindled by one's own passion, interest, or the inherent satisfaction derived from an activity. Think of it as pursuing a hobby because you genuinely love it, not because you're being paid to do it.

Pathwise addressed: What is my Intrinsic Motivation? Why is it so hard to really understand it? What are the best tools in the tool box to help unravel the layers covering our intrinsic motivation? And, once you find it, how do you apply it to your life?

My journey has significantly enhanced both my personal and professional life. Thank you to Todd Hollow-Bist and the entire Pathwise Leadership for giving me the tools.?

I highly recommend the Pathwise Leadership course to anyone in my network ready to advance their leadership skills and to best prepare for the rest of their lives.? #PathwiseLeader #PathwiseLeadership?
