What Is More Important Than Setting A GOAL?
Would you believe that goal setting is not the important first step in goal achieving?
I know this sounds odd, to say that the goal isn’t done first.
I have a hard enough time keeping the commitment to write my goal and affirm it every day (along with all the other ‘personal growth activity).
I thought someone might want to know how to best prepare for a quantum leap, and this was the missing piece for me.
Ready?
What’s your Purpose?
Your Vision?
-And-
Then your goal(s)?
Purpose.
Sounds so elegant. It is the WHY you do what you do.
This isn’t the time to be wishy-washy or vague. Or afraid to be tied to it forever.
The truth is that it is forever, but it can feel intimidating to name it. I get that, but once the work is done, it is done.
Purpose does not change (hint: our vision and goals can – and will).
I’ve been working on this with my group this week. It is going to lead into an epic 30-day challenge for a quantum leap.
If I don’t know my purpose, this is when my paradigms are going to wrestle control when I don’t want to do the uncomfortable action. I have to be uncomfortable to get where I want to go. Getting used to not being the know-it-all…
We did the work on this, for some of us it is ever evolving to let it bubble up because we have never really sat and thought about our life this way.

I had to ask myself “what do I LOVE ?? to do?” And not care about what anyone else says. Besides, I’m not here to live someone else’s dream.
See – when I am NOT on purpose – EVERYTHING is off course.
When I know my purpose, I easily create the right vision.
When the vision is right, I’ll recognize the right goal.
Now, once I know the purpose, I get to express it by creating and maintaining a vision. (Which can and should be re-visited every year- creating the vision for 2025)
Vision is WHAT you do with your life.
It is the strategy behind the fulfillment of my purpose. (see how this is all tying together?)
Now – with my vision fixed, I’ve got to plan the course. I have to figure out what I need to do from today forward (I like between 3 and 12 months) to get to my goal.
This is where the goal comes into play. See where it is in the above steps? Not first.
The goal HAS to be something we want. Not meant to be a ‘SMART’ goal. It is not meant to be something you know how you will get – but something you will push through the uncomfortable.
Last month I pushed through this and got very uncomfortable. (If you haven’t seen the picture of me and Sandy Gallagher in a post here – look for it ??). That was me after telling her about a huge goal that was presented to me during the 3 days in training.
SO…
Establish a PURPOSE
Build a VISION
Set your GOALS
There are no excuses for anyone who is willing to do the illogical.
