Would you like to mentor young people? Take a look at Mood Mentoring
Introduction?
Mood mentoring has been a part of the Foundation since the very beginning. You might be wondering just what it is and why it is such a major part of the organisation and what we do.?
At the very heart of it, mood mentoring is about supporting young people through any struggles that they might be having with their mental health. This is regardless of if they have been diagnosed with a mental illness or not, because looking after your mental health is something that everyone should do. This is done in conjunction with mood mapping, a concept developed by Jacqueline Campbell, the founder of JCF, and Dr Liz Miller.?
The JCF MoodMap measures mood, which a mixture of two things; how much (or little) energy you have and how positive (or negative) feeling.
The mood mentors are there to guide young people through learning about their moods, what can affect their moods and how to manage their moods using the mood map. These mentors gain qualifications through training that was designed with the help of a psychologist.?
Our mood mentors are trained to use the mood map (above) which shows young people to measure their mood in any moment. Once they know where they are moodwise (their energy levels and how positive or negative they're feeling) they can then take steps to change their mood. Mood mentors are trained to facilitate this. Mood mentors can work with young people up to 12 weeks, showing them how to measure and manage their mood and wellbeing. After this, the young person can continue managing their mood independently, for the rest of their lives.

1 年Mentoring young people is a powerful tool to help shape their future and ensure they have the tools they need to succeed. It is also an opportunity to develop meaningful relationships and create an environment that empowers young people to become the best version of themselves. I also believe that the help provided in mentoring is somewhat bidirectional, as the person doing the mentoring also receives value and personal learning from the person being mentored.
