What is Mindset?
So much has been written and talked about regarding the subject, yet most are not clear about what mindset is, or how it affects us on a daily basis.
The simplest way to explain Mindset, is a way of thinking. A belief system. We form our beliefs based on genetic programming received at birth, and as children, our environment and experiences, paint a picture of how we perceive the world and ourselves.
Mindset is your collection of habitual thoughts and beliefs. These habitual ways of looking at things, determine the actions you will take and ultimately create the results in your life. Your mind-set impacts how you make sense of the world, and how you make sense of you.
Attitude and Mindset
Here’s what the Oxford Dictionary has to say about attitude:
“An attitude is a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically one that is reflected in a person’s behavior.”
Bob Proctor explains attitude as your thoughts, feelings and actions.
Thoughts lead to feelings.
Feelings lead to actions.
Actions lead to results.
Successful people understand that success is 95% mindset and only 5% strategy. They guard their thinking above all else. Never letting the news, conditions and circumstances, or their environment control their thinking. By constantly monitoring their thoughts, they control their feelings and the actions they take, ultimately producing the results they want to see in their life... What are you thinking about?
Beliefs and Mindset
What is a belief?
A belief is an idea that you keep repeating to yourself over and over again until it is habit, an ingrained way of looking and feeling about something.
The basic building blocks of beliefs are ideas. Beliefs are like a tabletop. As you build references and experiences, you add legs to your tabletop. When your idea feels certain, it becomes a belief.
That’s why it’s so important to know what your beliefs are based on.
You beliefs shape your mindset.
Wikipedia on Mindset
“In decision theory and general systems theory, a mindset is a set of assumptions, methods, or notations held by one or more people or groups of people that is so established that it creates a powerful incentive within these people or groups to continue to adopt or accept prior behaviors, choices, or tools.”
But what if the prior behaviors, choices or tools are based on wrong beliefs, and are no longer serving the individual in their desired results?
