What is mindset?

Mindset is the degree to which you believe in yourself as worthy of respect and value regardless of how you look or what you do.
Through that lens, you interpret your most basic qualities, what’s happening to you and around you – and what’s possible for you.?
Your mindset is formed by your thoughts, emotions, your habits, strategies, your behaviours, the shadows of those behaviours, your other beliefs, your history, your values, your experiences, your memories.?
These elements come together and form the basis of your mindset and – and ultimately, your identity.
Why is it important?
Whether we are aware of it or not, our minds are always monitoring and interpreting what’s happening to us and what it means.?
Depending on how our mindset has formed, the interpretation can be empowering or discouraging; you might have been programmed for Growth – or Survival.
The main way the interpretation is expressed is through the way we think – and ultimately – talk to ourselves. Our internal monologue may be focused on judging ourselves and our performance; or the opposite – on finding positives and strengths even in most difficult of situations. And that’s what ultimately defines whether we will succeed or not.?
The good news is that however, your mindset is right now, it can be changed.
Is believing in ourselves enough to stay in Growth??
No, it isn’t.?

To be in Growth you need to learn to recognise your thoughts, your emotions and emotions of others and also – how to make choices based on what that emotional data is telling you.
Which is why in our programmes we teach you how to use Framework for Growth that integrates your thoughts (practice of Be Curious), emotions (Be Present) and behaviour (Be Choiceful).
When your Mindset is switched to Survival you don’t feel OK (either with ourselves, with others or both). Your puzzle pieces become misshapen and disconnected. You lose our ability to be present with your emotions, which in turn leads to defensive reaction and behaviour.
As a result –?you might find yourself in Critic (where you value your opinion over that of others, dominate and criticise); Dependent (where you give control to others and are anxious about your own performance) or Stuck (feeling out of control and hopeless).?
Conversely, when your Mindset is switched to Growth we feel OK. Your puzzle pieces are aligned and connected – your impact positive. You feel present with your emotions and use that understanding to inform mindful action.
The more you can consciously nurture your Self Belief and Belief in Others the more likely you are to remain adaptable, resilient and collaborate effectively with others.
Today, I invite you to reflect on what can you do to consciously nurture your Self Belief??
Over the coming weeks, I’ll be doing a deeper dive into these different elements contributing to us showing up from Growth – and provide more tips that you can immediately apply to your circumstance, so stay tuned!
Be well?, Aleksandra

2 年I found this article fascinating, however, I would like to pose a couple of questions pertaining to the 'Growth' and 'Survival' mindset. - Which mindset is effective in relation to Short, Medium, and Long-term? - Or does context and personal circumstances enable a 'Survival' mindset to flourish as opposed to a 'Growth' mindset?

2 年I recognise these components of mindset Aleksandra and they are so important in combination for determining the results we get. I love how each of the elements - thoughts, behaviours, shadow behaviours, values, beliefs, memories, identity etc all interact and how we, as coaches, can help our clients change any and all of these dimensions.
