What are Mimes and why they are important?

What are Mimes and why they are important?

Written media isn’t the only way to do social media, business marketing. Visual media is probably generally better! A picture is worth a thousand words is a truism, but it’s actually true. People tend to scroll on social media sites, which means they tend not to spend a lot of time looking at each thing. An image, especially an image with a few words, can often get the point across faster than an article.

I’m not saying written media is bad and pictures are good. They’re different. You’re reading an article right now. Look at the progress of the internet. It used to be very word-based. Remember the first blogs you read back in the day? Unless you’re fairly young, these were virtually all word-based. Visual media can include static images as well as videos. Do you remember what a vlog is? It’s a blog with video. V + blog = Vlog. Yes, I know the words are horrendously cacophonous. But it’s the names we’re stuck with.

When people search for stuff, it’s often a graphic that arrests them more than a headline or especially more than text. Words create pictures in our heads. Images (pictures)…well, they don’t need to be created in our heads because we’re already looking at the picture. Do you need a plumber? A picture of a nice-looking plumber’s van with a neatly dressed, friendly-looking plumber standing beside it will do a lot more than just saying… “we’re professionals and will always treat you with kindness.”

As far as social media is concerned, the truth of the matter is you need both words and images. I’m including videos in images. Images arrest you. Videos capture you. If you really want to know details, though, there’s nothing better than fifty or even a few hundred words of explanation.

One of the best types of images we’ve found for social media marketing purposes is what’s called a “mime.” These are images with a few words on them. Mimes are the best of both worlds. The image part arrests your eye, and the words drive home the point. Mimes work great on business social media pages. A Facebook page that’s not been posted to since a year ago does more harm than good. Posting a daily mime, interspersed with a few status updates and longer articles every now and then, is pure gold! Your page looks professional. The images get people to stop, and the text drives home the point.

If you’re not doing much social media marketing, consider doing a lot of graphic marketing. Not all graphics, though. Use enough text to deepen the message.

Are you ready to travel the Gold Bricks Road? I have mimes to help you make your business page “POP” on Facebook, Google My Business, Twitter, Instagrahm, and LinkedIn. Reach out to me today and ask to see my demo page on Facebook. I accept all connection requests.

Where is an example of a mime that you're referring to, because I'm thinking of the standard that ties to emails?
