What is the middle east connection

Saffron is known as a Middle Eastern spice, but why? Well, for starters approximately 85-90% of the entire world’s supply of saffron is produced in Iran. The Iranian climate is optimal for growing saffron flowers, plus there is a long history spanning centuries of cultural usage of saffron within the Middle East. It’s similar to the U.S.-made “Amish table” from the Midwest. Simply put, those who live in the region understand the unique process for harvesting saffron and combined with the climate, Iran and neighboring countries are essentially the saffron hub of the world.
