We had several Pitch Club Cafe clients land super quick media interviews recently so they asked me for advice on how to be prepared when that happens.
They both literally got calls and had to be ready for an on-camera interview ASAP. For one we had a little time to quickly text outfit ideas but for another, he hadn't shaved that day and it was "GO TIME!"
If you follow me and implement my Get PR Famous? formula, you need to be ready for success because it works. Being prepared is the key to making a strong impression with the media.
#1 - have a TV-ready outfit easily available in your office or home, wherever you are going to be when the media calls. And if it could either, have something ready in both.
#2 - as I mentioned above, for men, keeping a razor in you desk drawer is vital for a quick shave.
#3 - next is having a makeup bag on hand at all times. While you may think this is more associated with women, it's important to remember that even men need powder or concealer for those unexpected blemishes or shine. Women may also want to have a range of makeup options available, including lipstick, blush, and eyeliner, to make sure they look their best on camera.

#4 - you also want to consider light and sound. Having a portable light in your office/home and a good microphone or headphone can make a huge difference in how you appear and sound on camera.
Overall, being prepared for a last-minute media interview requires some forethought and planning. By having a TV-ready outfit, makeup bag, portable light, and other key items on hand, you can ensure you make a strong impression and convey your message effectively to their audience.
You only get one chance to make a first impression so if you're going to pitch the media, be prepared for the last minute interview.
