What is Not Measured, is Not Attained!

I was at the gym today, and after the cardio workouts with the group, I decided to do some personal training. So there was, the thread mill was fully occupied and I noticed that one of the elliptical cross trainers was free. However it was manual, so I could only cycle manually without the benefits of the dashboard.
I wouldn't see the number of calories that were being lost nor could I see the timer and all of that.
I got on it and it was working, but after a while, I noticed I was getting tired. I couldn't track my progress. I couldn't see how many calories I was burning, or how much time I had spent on it. And then I just told the lady beside me, I said, "I don't think I can continue with this. Let me wait for a spot to be available on the threadmill so I can jump on that instead.
And when it did, I got on the treadmill.
So I told myself I was going to set a target for a hundred calories on the treadmill, or 20 minutes so that depending on how fast or slow I get, or whichever one I hit first, that would be it.
And then I started. As I walked, I watched the dashboard. I could see my calorie loss counting. It was going up, I was watching the timer, and then the distance being covered. It was, it was moving really fast.
And guess what happened?
By the time I had hit a hundred calories, it wasn't 20 minutes yet. So I told myself, okay, yeah, you know, I can push it a bit and maybe I can do 1.5 kilometers. And by the time I hit 20 minutes, I had done 1.8 kilometers.
So I told myself, okay, let me do two kilometers. And that was how I hit all my goals with a surplus!
Two kilometers distance covered, 113 calories burnt, and about 22 minutes spent on the threadmill.
Now, what does this tell you? If I hadn't gone on a machine that had a tracker, I would have given up. I would've been tired because I wouldn't know how much progress I'm making or if I'm making any progress at all.
And it's the same way with your business.

Peter Drucker famously said, “If you can't measure it, you can't manage it.”
If there are no metrics to measure progress, you are more likely to FAIL at hitting any of your business goals.
So even if you have a goal to record $100,000 in one month or one year, if you don't have metrics to track how you are going to arrive at that goal, you will not be able to hit that goal.
