What It Means To Be A Woman Entrepreneur

Well, the question itself is a challenge thrown in the face of this patriarchal society. Hey, wait I am not a feminist or hypocrite; rather I believe in fair share of everything between women and men. There are times when I ask myself this question that if it really makes that much difference than a man in this entrepreneurship? To give an accurate answer I must say, the fundamental existence of a woman entrepreneur is very much challenging. It would not have been easier either if I were a man, but truth be told, men do not have to wrap themselves in the domestic perils or other forms of stress that a woman face unavoidably. So, yes I am not going to put effort to this basic difference as I am more concerned in thinking what my achievements really meant to me and how they shaped my journey.

To be an entrepreneur means you are taking risks and planning to seek out your dreams following the harshest paths. I believe in taking the leap of faith which is the ultimate push one requires to be an entrepreneur. You have got to be a decision maker, a risk taker and a patient listener. All these qualities were not injected in me. I will not say I was born that way, but I will definitely say I crave to insert those qualities within my veins with time and effort.

When I first started my journey despite knowing how much trouble I would be facing, I remain static on my motive and kept my dedication focused on one purpose. My life changed as I became a wife, a daughter-in-law; loads of responsibilities burdened my shoulders, yet I kept my eyes straight ahead. Because I knew I had to walk a tight rope. From that moment onwards I wrapped a hard shell around me like a cocoon and blocked the distractions. This invisible shield around me, obviously took time to develop, gave me strength to fight and kept my passion going.

What’s disheartening is that people try to take advantage of a woman’s gentle nature and easy work pattern which makes it even harder for an entrepreneur to tackle every situation the way she wants. But I made myself clear that I am not going to be manipulated. Even in 21st Century it feel quite laughable how people judge someone on the basis of gender and not by their work ethics and efficiency. So, here goes my quote to all the aspiring women entrepreneurs:

“Let the world drag you behind. Just know this; you are the warrior queen and not a sweet princess.”
