What it means to witness four transformations in a scientific discipline!
For many Prof. Kamaljit Singh Bawa is a renowned scientist of Indian origin, who is now settled in the United States of America. For me, Kamal as he is popularly known is a living story of a Punjabi boy who witnessed Indian Independence and unfortunately India's Partition. To me Kamal is a story of Indian aspiration in post-independence era.
He completed his Ph.D. from Punjab University, and then went to USA with ambition to acquire new scientific techniques and knowledge, and then come back to India to serve the nation. But, as destiny had planned, Kamal continued pursuing professional career at the University of Massachusetts at Boston, and later became the first Indian born scientist to be awarded with Linnean medal in Botany by the Linnean Society of London. However, his biggest contribution and service to India is the establishment of ATREE, Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and Environment at Bangaluru.
I had a pleasure of having Kamal as a guest on the 6th episode of "Vishwas In Conversation". I had fun and ecstatic feelings while listening to Kamal describing, what it means to witness four transformations in a scientific discipline.
I welcome you to watch the part 1 and part 2 of my dialog with Kamal.
