What means Innovation and Digital transformation at the leadership level? (in a nutshell):

Beyond the traditional information about the relevance of innovation and the need for the digital transformation, a deeper understanding and discussion at the highest level of enterprises is needed. It is not about the use of “Lean methods” and Artificial intelligence but about more fundamental understanding and questions.  

Right now, the required Innovation is that of disruptive nature one. However, A) Disruptive (tech) Innovation in large and traditional enterprises, requires a companion a) Business model Innovation. By definition, you cannot align disruptive innovation with old structures.

As a consequence of the previous, you will require a B) Innovation strategy. What is your core business about? How much are you going to outsource or keep internally? But overall, in the first place, why at the highest level your goals are your essence? Giving an honest answer to the "why" will help you find solutions to the "how" and decide the "what". Then, you will realize “why” in turn, your innovation strategy will need an equative and motivational b) Intellectual property strategy.

Despite nowadays IP is the largest asset of almost all top 500 S&P companies, having an Intellectual property strategy is being highly overlooked in Open innovation schemes while somehow less in internal R&D projects. However, creating a forefront transparent environment with the proper legally defined equity framework generates the trust that not only will speed up but also strongly motivate to add value (transformation) to your company.

When also these last two: a) Business model Innovation and b) Intellectual property strategy are recognized necessary companion frameworks and properly developed, a company will be in the position of moving towards an innovative digital transformation.
