What it Means to Have a Dynamic Website

Providing good user experience UX on your website isn’t an option anymore— it’s a must. That’s because finicky visitors won’t stay long on your site if the user experience (UX) isn’t great. Even the faintest hint of an awkward interface, poor performance, or confusing menus will send many of them off to your competitors at alarming rates — up to 40%[1].
But let’s assume you aim to do more than just keep visitors from fleeing, Let’s say you’d like to impress, delight, assist, or in some other way show extra value to sticking around.
That’s where personalization comes in.
Showing content that’s targeted at specific users is, for 2019, one of the top goals of many an online business. And it can’t be done unless you have a dynamic website.
What is a Dynamic Website?
There are two types of websites in the world: static and dynamic. Without weighing you down with a lot of techno-speak, I’ll give you a definition of “dynamic” that anyone can relate to:
Dynamic websites contain content that changes depending on who’s visiting.
So for example, what if you were selling shoes? Wouldn’t it be nice to show different content to different visitors, depending on who they are? It doesn’t do much good to show a collection of fur-lined wedge booties to a guy from Miami, does it? And likewise, moms across Wisconsin aren’t going to relate to a landing page showing leather flip flops for men — especially in the middle of February.
The ability to show different web pages according to who’s looking is only one benefit of having a dynamic website but it’s an important one. Developers and designers are considering this to be an up-and-coming capability that lots of business owners are soon going to want.
Why Developers & Marketers Love Dynamic Websites
Dynamic websites have a lot of benefits that the user really doesn’t see, except indirectly. Because they’re created on the fly, pulling pieces together that are stored in a database, they load much faster than static websites.
Static sites, on the other hand, load everything all at once when a visitor lands on the page. Basically serving as online brochures, they offer no interaction with the user: no shopping cart, no comments, no blog, and definitely no personalization.
Conclusion
Having a dynamic website offers benefits all around — from faster loading times to increased opportunities for marketing to a targeted audience with personalization.
Already, around three-quarters of customers become frustrated when they visit a website and the content has not been personalized[2]. It won’t be long before sites that don’t have personalized content are driving away visitors.
The takeaway here is that like UX, personalization is more than “nice to have” — it’s quickly becoming a “must have”. Want to know more about making your website even better than it already is? Talk to me — I can help!
