What matters most when servicing aged care facilities

It’s been an absolute privilege to be servicing aged care facilities throughout NSW for the past fifteen years. I've gathered deep insights into what truly matters to both the residents and the village managers. Throughout this journey I’ve learnt so much about this important industry and what is most valued of service organisations such as mine Shimmer Glass and Pressure Cleaning. Over the past 15 years we have developed our team to ensure that we are meeting the needs of this very unique industry. Our journey has been one of continuous learning and adaptation, always striving to meet the unique needs of aged care facilities. Here, I share the key lessons and strategies that have guided me in servicing this vital sector.

Understanding Residents' Needs

Safety and Comfort

The primary concern for residents in aged care facilities is safety. Clean, well-maintained environments reduce the risk of accidents and infections. Having a site wide strategy with regular cleaning intervals is critical for aged care facilities to meet their rigorous accreditations. Our window cleaning, building washing and pressure cleaning protocols ensure the facilities remain immaculate at all times which not only provides a warm and friendly environment for the residents and a hygienic living space but also reflects a high class image for the village and the brand of the aged care facility.

Dignity and Respect

Aging with dignity is a fundamental right. Residents want to live in a place they can be proud of. Regular maintenance of windows, exteriors, and common areas helps create a pleasant and respectable living environment. Cleanliness contributes to their overall well-being and self-esteem. With much more time on their hands sitting and enjoying their home it seems to increase their focus on their home so its even more important to ensure every detail is covered. Shimmer takes great care to clean all the tracks and frames during the visit and to check in with residents along the way to see if their expectations have been met.

Attention to Detail

Residents take great care in their homes, and small details can be very important to them. Ensuring that furniture is returned to its original position is critical, as many residents are unable to move it themselves. This attention to detail not only maintains their comfort but also makes them feel nurtured and respected.

Warmth and Connection

Sometimes, just a warm conversation and giving residents a little bit of our time can make a significant difference. Listening to their stories and ensuring they feel heard and respected is an integral part of our service. This human connection is as important as the physical cleaning we provide.

Consistency and Reliability

Older adults value routines. Consistent cleaning schedules and reliable service times help create a stable and predictable environment, which is comforting for residents. Regular communication about any changes also minimizes disruption to their daily lives.

Supporting Village Managers

Tailored Services

Village managers have different expectations from village to village. It is critical to understand how each manager wants to be serviced and to meet their expectations. Demonstrating our competence and gaining their ongoing support is vital to our overall strategy.

Operational Efficiency

Village managers need services that integrate seamlessly into their daily operations. We have developed efficient cleaning processes that minimize downtime and ensure that all areas are serviced without interrupting the facility’s routine. This helps managers maintain smooth operations and focus on other critical tasks.

Cost-Effectiveness

Budget constraints are a reality for many aged care facilities. Offering flexible pricing plans and bundled service packages allows managers to optimize their maintenance budgets without compromising on quality. We work closely with managers to identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining high standards.

Compliance and Standards

Aged care facilities must adhere to stringent health and safety regulations. Our team is well-versed in these standards and ensures that all cleaning practices comply with relevant guidelines. This not only keeps the facility compliant but also reassures residents and their families about the quality of care provided.

Rapid Response and Flexibility

Emergencies and unexpected situations are inevitable. Having a cleaning service that can respond quickly and adapt to changing needs is crucial. Our rapid response team is always ready to address urgent cleaning requirements, ensuring that the facility remains clean and safe at all times.

Sustainability

Increasingly, aged care facilities are looking to adopt more sustainable practices. We have incorporated eco-friendly cleaning solutions and methods that reduce environmental impact while maintaining effectiveness. This not only supports the facility’s sustainability goals but also promotes a healthier environment for residents. We were finalists in the Telstra Sustainability Award this year which was an incredible privilege and shows the focus that we have put as an organisation on ensure that we are delivering ecologically sustainable solutions to all of our clients.

Building Strong Partnerships

Long term strategy

The first time we clean the village, we learn so much about a village. We take extensive notes to ensure that with each year, we provide an even better service with minimal disruption to village life. Understanding the specific challenges faced by each facility allows us to tailor our approach and deliver exceptional results.

Ongoing Communication

The foundation of our success in the aged care industry lies in building strong, collaborative relationships with village managers and staff. Regular feedback sessions and open communication channels ensure that we continually improve our services to meet their evolving needs.

Conclusion

Reflecting on my fifteen-year journey in the aged care sector, I feel deeply enriched by the experiences and lessons learned. By focusing on what truly matters to both residents and village managers, Shimmer Glass and Pressure Cleaning has developed strategies that enhance the quality of life for residents while supporting the operational excellence of aged care facilities. I look forward to continuing our commitment to excellence and innovation in this vital industry.
