What Matters More: Feeling Secure or Feeling Sparked?

You've worked for years in an organization, built up equity and you’re grateful for the salary and benefits, but you’ve also found yourself burned out and depleted, wondering if you’re even making a difference operating within an institution that feels like it’s becoming a barrier to your ability to do what makes you come alive and effect change.
And, you’re not alone. Millions are feeling the same thing. On today’s SPARKED podcast, school psychologist, Lauren, shares this common experience, made evermore complex by the pandemic and the mental health struggles and stress that students and teachers are encountering. So many have their version of this experience these days. Lauren asks:?
“Do I just stick it out and try to cope with the overwhelm, limitation, and burnout in the name of making it to “full retirement,” or do I take the leap and devote myself more fully to newer ways to serve, where I have more control and freedom to express myself, and do more of what I know lights me up now?”
That’s what we dive into in today’s SPARKED Podcast episode. How to define the forward path when we are struggling against those big paradigms that, on the one hand, provide some sense of security and benefits (especially on retirement), even when they cause great pressure and frustration, and balance that against the urges to just throw in the towel and do what makes us come alive.?
To help tease out insights, ideas, and strategies, we're joined by SPARKED Braintrust mentor, Cynthia Morris. Cynthia is an ally for smart, soulful creatives who have a project they must finish. She is an artist, author, and creativity coach, and the founder of Original Impulse a creative studio and coaching program in Denver, CO. Her mission is to help you become the creative dynamo you were born to be.

2 年The sense of security, if based on external factors can prove temporary or outside of our control. Likewise externallly based feelings of being ‘sparked’ into life or action. The key is to nurture and strengthen your spark to the point where it remains alive inspite of life circumstances.
